After a day at the drags in Picton where I saw many of you folks I had to play tonight in Foxboro. On the way home we decided to stop at the DQ for a cone. A Honda with four young lads and a HP exhaust was not far behind whipping in and out of traffic and jazzing his motor. When we rounded the corner he passed me on the right and looked like he was gonna pull over in front of me. I squeezed the go pedal and held my ground.  (we are driving the wife's ride not the max wedge) We rolled to the red light side by side and he jazzes his motor getting ready for the launch. I roll down the power window and holler "Go ahead punk, make my day.!" A couple of seconds later the light turns green and already up on the converter I launch. I was probably out two lengths on him as he seemed stunned some old fart could lay a whippin on him and surprised that one would even try. And tis true he did make my day. ;>)

I was lucky…. There was a car that pulled up beside me a a red light on north front street in Belleville. From the corner of my eye I saw the white front fender move as he torqued it up. Not wanting to out done I nailed him on the light. After about two car lengths I let off the gas and the Belleville City Police Car kept on going. Now I look real well at who's beside me.

Many years ago about 1972 I think I had a 63 Dodge post car and had through a stroke of luck acquired a blown (up) 426 Street hemi from a wrecked charger. I did it up SS style with the 12 to ones and a Erson 999XXX cam . I ran mostly the stock dual plane 2 fours. I tried street driving it and while it was OK was not my best plan. One night and John Morton of Morton Crane whom many of you know or have seen with his RED and his Ford powered bantam altered was with me at the time (and will tell you this story in much better fashion then can I ) We were at the stoplights of N Front Street and College in Belleville. Beside us pulled a 2 dr Plymouth Fury HDTP . The guy was feeling brave. I didn't know him but John seems to. "What are you running?" he asked as we sat rummbling at the stop light. "A Big Six" I replied. "Feel lucky?" He nodded and when the light changed I stayed with him to about the top of the railway bridge probably feeding the hemi from just the front carbs primary. When I sensed that he was all in I squeezed the throttle the rest of the way and opened up the other six holes. The intake roar on a hemi was unbelieveable as the night exploded in sound. It was over in a second and I began slowing down heading for the stop sign at Thrashers (before there was a light there). He rollled up along side and hollered "I thought you said you had a six!?" "It is!" I said with an evil grin . "Its a 420-SIX!!!!!!!!!!!" John said I said a bit more than that. I hope not but anyway tis what it is. Shortly after I turned it into a race only car and ran it at Cayuga for several years. (Big silver gray 2 dr 63 Dodge sedan with POWER TUNE UP on the doors) Eventually doing a Dart chassis and transplanting the hemi there. In the gray 63 I used to always run a trap speed of over 120MPH which back then was pretty decent for a low budget bracket car. I think 120.12 (I checked because I still have my time tickets) was the best and perhaps 119 the worst. Top end charge was unbelievickable. Power was not a problem. Finish line RPM was around 7600. FUN! In the Dart it would hit 7800 (121.21mph) in the lights on a real good run and never seemed to care. I should have regeared the Dart to 456s or even 430s but I was young and still in that childish mode of more is always better. Now I know that right is might and more is mostly just expensive. It rarely shows up on the time ticket.

Engine BTW is still around and currently in western Ontario being reconverted for street use in a 68 4dr Cornet (Can you say Sleeper)

I hate to be the grammar coach on this one , but I think the correct term for High Performance Exhaust on a honduh , or any other import is , Fart Can .
Yeah driving my 50 chev truck home last night , 2 guys in a really nice looking prelude give me the 2 throttle blip signal then stand on it , easily over 80 k,s in a 60 k zone . on this stretch of road is 2 churches , a old folks home , 2 low income housing places and a lil park . its also known as a nearly 24 / 7 speed trap . an , the one time nobody was on duty there ha ha .
But on second thot , if the car just didn,t have , or the exhaust was falling off , it could be considered high performance due to loss of weight , or freeing up back pressure slash horse power restrictions ..77.
