Car show at the Gilmore

I got an invite to a car show at the Gilmore car museum Hickory Corner's Mich. put on by the Classic Car Club of America. There is seven car museum's there owned by different car clubs with 400 cars on display indoors. I have always wanted to go to look around but the eight Hr. drive there just to look never paned out. The show was over the top with a welcome  barbeque Fri. evening. A car tour Sat. where they even had security for the cars at the scheduled  stops on the tour. Followed by a banquet dinner at the Radisson in the evening. Sunday was the car show with 150 Classic cars  and over 50 juniors. I never seen so many open Packard's at one time in my life. When they showed me my parking spot the fellow next to me was under his car polishing his chassis and I never even washed the road dust from the day before. Of all the cars there only 4 of us had open trailers and some were delivered by transport from all over the US. Some even would have a car handler to do all the work of cleaning and getting the car ready for the show. The wife and I were in the tent having a late lunch supplied by the Radisson Hotel when we got a few sprinkles of rain. You would think they were expecting a tidal wave as it was madness the way they drove their cars off the show field to get then in the trailer. Luckily no one was hit or a fender-bender. I was not expecting to win a ribbon in this crowed so we never registered for the awards banquet and so viewed more of the cars in the museums. All in all it was a fantastic event to attend and would do it again depending where. I was given a brass and porcelain personalized licence plate for the event to keep. To top the weekend off I had a message that the fellow from Truro NS. was coming for my Biscayne 2nd week of July.

Having your car on the grounds lets you take pictures in front of the different period buildings.

Smoking Joe, I was at the Gilmore Museum late last year. It is quite the place, some incredible automobiles.

I had been hoping for more of the race cars of Jim Gilmore but was disappointed with the one Coyote Foyt display car. However it was well worth the trip to see the place and I would go back.

Thanks for sharing the story and photos.
