Damn Ontario government

Just went to get the sticker for my coupe - $117.00. While I was there I put the Chevy 11 in my name as an unfit vehicle after paying $50.00 to a used car salesman to verify that my receipt, stamped and signed by a notary public was correct. Transfer + taxes cost me another $1000+. Now I need to take it for a safety check which will probably cost at least $100.00 because I understand they have tightened up the rules these mechanics need to follow (pictures of brakes and tires etc.?) as well as a tow truck to get it there and back home. Then another fee to change it to a fit but unplated car and in the spring I'll need to get another appraisal for the insurance company, insurance and another fee to the government to get it changed to fit and plated. Ask me why I'm in a pissed off mood today.

I have to get the sticker for my car next month and am not looking forward to the extra cost this year. I hate to give the extra to the Lieberal Whinnies to help them payoff their screw-ups. Free country, higher costs every year, cant fight traffic tickets. How much more can we take??

The rules for a safety check have not changed. MTO is proposing new changes but they don't include photos - that's strictly for salvage vehicle inspections. Also, see if the shop that you choose for your safety has "service" plates they will let you use to get the car to the shop.

Why not just get a 10 day permit. You are allowed 2 of them to drive your car around to get safeties and certs , as long as you have ins you are good to go . I have never had a problem with them and my ins company is used to our family doing this as we go thru a couple of cars each year. Ed

I've got historical plates on my 61 Galaxie. Cost me $18.00. That's the only deal I ever got from the dyke.

Check again . Just finished one on my 77 . You are allowed 2 during the change over . After that the vehicle must have a safety and I guess if new enough an Etest. Daughter just had 2 10 days while changing over a 2006 GrandPrix. Ed

The vehicle ownership must be in "fit" status in order to get a temp permit. If it's "unfit", you cannot.

Life is for the rich ! or the genderly unknown

(related to this thread, yet not directly, I noticed there are some on here that know "everything", without doing the research. "Shoot first ask, questions later"

Trip "plates" + "temporary" stickers are allowed only for vehicles which say "fit" on the top of the owner ship, not gym membership. Like people I know that are members of the "Iq of the month" club, just because you get a letter every month with 3 free points IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU SMARTER!
I have said enough (or maybe too much)
check your mail box today!

Yup Egg on my face I misread the first post . Here's hoping the turtle can find it in his heart to forgive whom ever that know it all is, for his/her horrible mistake and perhaps lend him/her a few bucks to upgrade the gym membership. Ed

You mean the government is trying to squeeze us for all the money they can get out of us. Kinda like milking cattle. Hey someone has to pay for those gas plants and all the other stuff they screwed us on.

Just making the middle class poor and they know you need a car to get around mostly in Canada, getting you where they can. Soon only the rich will have classic cars and toys....... everyone else takes the bus, if you can afford it.

Well that SUCKS but I believe Northern Ont. has had "CHEAP" plates for a long time!!!  Think they were $10 at one time  No Emission tests ,Cheap plates, give the "Witch" time & she will screw that up for you folks up north once they see $$$$ slipping away that her Gov. could "PI$$" away on stupid things down here!!!!!!

Well here's how it works ..... sorta....... the government here in Ontario still thinks that Ontario is the economic engine of Canada (it once was) so they think (blindly or not) that we still are when in fact Ontario is a, "has been" province and has been for some time. Anyone but the government knows this if you live here. The government still sees this province as a honey pot to pillage, 'cause we have so much damn money. Cars, classic or not is the natural thing for this government to attack. Hey you do need to get around, right. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Just my opinion.

I have noticed there has been reference made to MIDDLE class in Ontario. I suggest there has been a steady and rapid decline in the Middle class since the implementation of the FREE TRADE agreement signing. Our large business, factory base has withdrawn to the U.S. and all we are left with is an abundance of small businesses and the government is doing their best to bleed them dry.

And the Lieberals are still spending their never ending supply of taxpayers dollars by record amounts. Ontario has never been in such bad shape as now.  BUT, in California they aren't harassing the Hot Rod industry like they are here.
