I was in Petrolia ON at Van Tuyl and Fairbank picking up some steel for a project and was told of the 150th celebration coming up on Fri July 10th. I picked up a couple of post card souvenirs and scanned them for others to see. This place is like stepping back in time. They had only poured cement floors in the 'store section' a year or so ago, for the century and a half before that it was a dirt floor. In fact, it still is in the steel and well casing storage area. If you happen to be in Petrolia someday, look this place up, it's living history.
Van Tuyl and Fairbank of Petrolia Ontario is celebrating the fact that it is the 'Oldest Family Owned Hardware store in Canada'. As of Friday July 10th 2015 it will have been continually in business for 150 years. The store will be open and conducting tours and talks on it's history. A couple of pictures and descriptions of the store, and early store receipts.
