Woodward has been a huge disappointment to us the last few years. 80% dailies mixed with the show cars, police hassling spectators, and not a lot of show cars. Haven't been to this one, but everyone I talk to in Michigan says go to 'Back to the Bricks' in Flint. A little more compact and better cars. Same weekend.
Been going since 95, and missed one year when our daughter got married that day. Back to the bricks on Wed., and Woodward on Sat. It depends on what area you're in as to how enjoyable it is.

I have been the last 2 years and yes, the amount of daily drivers are frustrating and because there are so many "daily's" I find rodders run 3-5 blocks at the middle of woodward and have to turn around cause its taken you 20 minutes to go 5 blocks and 20 minutes back to where you start over heating cause the traffic is so bad and I cant get enough air through my rad.....
I have not tried Back to the bricks but am so..... ready!
Never do it again!
Busted in Royal Oak for open container.....cost me $300 us for a freakin beer I never even tasted.....yet everyone around was drinking
PITA daily's......2 lanes of crap .....hardly any cruisers anymore....
Back to the Bricks 100%

Was on vacation in Virginia Beach. Went to 7-11, bought a Mister Big Gulp, mixed in some rum then strolled the beach, even chatted with a cop on horseback .... wasn't hassled or ticketed because they couldn't see what was in the cup and, due to our socially acceptable behavior, they didn't find a reason to bother with us ..... our plan worked flawlessly
Two years ago a young woman quietly sitting with her parents opened a can of beer. Within a minute she was accosted by an officer and before long was surrounded by 5 officers who questioned she and her parents for over an hour while the crowd around them watched in dismay. Several years prior to that, I was sitting next to a fellow Canadian who quietly opened a can and was immediately handed a $300 ticket. Not to be put off, when the officer left, he opened another and was again immediately handed another $300 ticket. I don't know where these officers come from and that they can't be aware of the damage they are doing to the economy of Detroit since Woodward is about the last revenue generator in the area and yes the fellow was probably stupid for the second can, but neither of these people were doing anything to draw attention other then supporting the local economy. I will never go back to Woodward and I hope they can't make payroll for the police department.
As said above 80 % are minivans and crapped out daily drivers. Traffic is stupid and try finding a spot to park. Its a big event but now its become a spectacle for everyone so its lost the appeal for many i know. I wont drive my car there but in the past have taken the grocery getter and park couple blocks back and walk around. Back to the bricks is a nicer venue so will head there. And yes creatively hiding your favorite beverage is a must.
