Just got a letter from Crosslands Insurance Co., stating that Federation Insurance Co. is no longer going to insure antique collector cars, and that Echelon General Insurance will replace it. The problem I'm having, is that The premium was $126.00 and now they want $306.00 for the same coverage. WTF, do these people think we're made of money?? Anyone else dealing with Crosslands get the same type of notice, with similar rate increases??

Two of my friends had there insurance cancelled by crosslands when there renewal came due I am with Zehrs in new Hamburg never had a problem and the rates are reasonable .
I am with Echeolon and have had no issues. However in saying that my broker is also good and not greedy. Modified 27K appraisal with taxes $268.00 I figured that was a deal so I am going nowhere.
I ended up going with Hagerty (Lant), and it cost me $179.
Good luck with them until you have a claim with AVIVIA!!! I got 'screwed' Royally with them on electrical fire claim, 3 mths of fighting & getting 3rd. part adjuster involved before they finally coughed up & gave the OK on claim!!! Avivia was the problem but Lant didn't seem to give a $hit & were quite rude on the phone when I complained, Bailed out shortly after I got the car back & went with Vintage. It's still better to get an appraisel & have proof in case you NEED it!!!!!

and on another note, i was up to peterboro from belleville last weekend doing the family stuff and got into a conversation with some guys and motorcycle insurance came up. there was 4 of us, all riders, 2 h-d and 2 jap which is irrelevant as collision cost is cheap and all 50yrs plus in age. these guys were all paying in the 1100.00 plus range and told it is probably going up while i pay 700.00 and small change and no word of a change. i realize there is usually an up charge due to where you live proportionately to population but this is in the 30 to 40 % range between the 2 similar demographics. 2 of them were/are with t-d bank insur and told t-d is/was losing money on bike insur and here is the price. humph!
- i know the whole industry is in a transitional phase right now according to my rep and that don't usually mean anything good for the consumer.
td insurance rates are horrendous. 18 months ago i ditched them for my daily driver and homeowners policies. i went with c.a.a. and saved about 900 bucks !!! even then td had to get one final bite out of me and charged a 220 buck cancellation fee. my buddy did the same thing and saved even more because td was severely raping him.

Ya, they aren't making enough on bank charges, so they're gonna rape everyone on anything they touch. Not that BMO, Royal, CIBC, Scotia is any better.

exactly parklane. the banks will soon take over all insurance and create yet another monopoly. i dealt with the canadian division of liberty mutual for years with no complaints until td took them over. rbc is another horror story - their insurance very nearly ruined a close friend's life.

I don't know how many of you guys and gals own bikes but my buddy just got an insurance statement from the T.D Insurance today and he freaked. He has been riding for over 30years accident free and a good driving record. He called T.D to find out why his rate had near tripled in cost. There response was that they did not single him out rather their rates increased across the board for motorcycles. This was due to the fact there have been so many claims in the past couple of years. Needles to say he is shopping for a new company. From my experience with T.D Insurance they should stick to banking not screwing up the insurance industry JMO and I will never use them again either.
Same here. My Harley rates went through the roof this year. No riding for me this upcoming season. $765.00 last year to $2550.00 for renewal. Never made a claim in my life. The reason given to me................. Moved to a new location and age of motorcycle............... Rhys.
I had 2 bikes before my surgery. As much as I love motorcycles. I can not justify the insane insurance rates. Classic car insurance is abut $200 a year, I know I drive the toys about the same as a bike in mileage. Yet a bike is $1200 a year(back then)....Not happening. I can spend that $1000 difference on fuel, performance etc. I do miss riding. Im glad I did it. I am not a woulda coulda shoulda guy. I do things I say I am going to do. I had my fun. My body can't handle the bumps anymore. Arthritis to bad. Ill stick to 4 wheels for now.
kinda late on this but ill tell you what they are doing, echelon is the underwriter, your guy is the broker, they are the ones jacking up your rate, change insurers or tell them you are going to, this tends to make them sharpen their pencils I find
I am with CAA and yes they do have good rates, I have not had a claim with them so I can not comment on how they deal with their clients when the need arises. I know they are pretty particular when it comes to taking you on though.

i dealt with liberty also doug but just for the bike. i was paying about 1000.00 for sh!tty coverage with ?? and i took the bike course at the local college for 2 days and my insurance went down to about 650.00 for a 250.00 course. all was good for 3 yrs and then i get my renewal in the mail from liberty with a t-d emblem on the envelope. when i seen t-d on it i figured this can't be good. a couple of years later it wasn't. lol
