Last night grandson Texted at 9:56 and said "did you just drive my truck away"   (I have a key)

I said no  Call the cops    OPP there in 10 minutes

Truck was locked and Reeve heard it fire up and drive away....

TODAY  cry  519 Trucks members spot in Norwich On Godfathers Pizza   OPP arrive

our red 03 4.8 short box 2wd scoots away...  OPP chase it to 180km and 2 nail strips  (truck has tuner and no speed limiter- will run 210-220)

Officer who chased it called Reeve to update him

Reeve is 19 and this was a gift from me last year.....

scum bag headed to local Reserve (Rez)......

Thanks to 519 Trucks members for tracking it

What is it out there , like crossing the state line in the movies. I thought the OPP were the Ontario Provincial Police . Why can't they follow criminals onto the reserve , or is it considered another nation. Ed

If they are in an active pursuit they can enter the Reservation. Once Res police are on hand they hand off the pursuit.

Sounds like they terminated the pursuit because it was getting too dangerous.

My son lost his truck a couple of years ago. He was coming back across parking lot when it drove away. Gets a call month or so later. Truck on the reserve and he bought it back from the wrecking yard. They "unbolted" the battery, alt, a/c comp, rad and the radio. Left all the screws inside the truck. Also took wheels and tailgate. Most damage done was by the recovery service on the reserve. Picked the truck up with a forklift and let the doors slide up against the forklift. Insurance paid the difference.

If that's the case, and the OPP suspect the truck is headed for a Reservation, I wonder why the OPP couldn't ask the Res Police to notify them when a red pickup, with fancy chrome wheels, goes tearing through the Reserve at 180kmh.  I'd be willing to bet the Res Police would most likely have a really good idea who's house or shop to park in front of, while waiting for the truck to arrive.

Just as a side note (not preaching here), unless someone knows where my hidden ignition shut-off switch is, they won't be able to drive away in any of my cars, even if they have my keys or copies of my keys.  No, it doesn't stop someone using a trailer or a tow truck, but I'm thinking most thefts are drive-aways.

I was on the reserve about 3 hours today, kept my eye's peeled - like I'd see anything, I know. But I did plant the word with a couple buddies, if I hear anything I'll pass it on Carl. This just plain sucks.

Ever since the OPP got called on the carpet over Ipperwash They won't do a dam thing even if its right in front of them. No they won't go on the reserve .

For any reason even if they have the legal right to . Any pre 2007 chev is a easy target.... Sorry but even if its returned it will be Fcked and the issuance will cause you nothing but grief .

Next time your on the rez take note of how many pre 2007 chev's you see . I even caught them trying to load my 05 onto a CAA truck one time .

The cops got around to calling me back 3 weeks latter. I could go on and on but I only piss myself off and in the end no one that should care's.

opp lame since "called to the carpet over ipperwash " ... or lame since the opp officer that shot dudley george died in a traffic accident with a truck in a snowstorm...

not like that would be hard to arrange these days with throw away cell phones and people waiting as one drives their usual nightly or dayly ride to or from work or whatever

Ford had the coded key thats why they leave them alone.

with the chev all thats needed is to punch the door lock

stick your finger in the hole and open the door ,like you used a key

drill and pop the steering lock tumbler and your off in under a minute

You can replace the door lock with the rear door of a suburban buy devconing

the extra bolt required ..... but they will just break the window

Yep, but that won't get them going if the car/truck has a hidden ignition shut-off switch evileye

Sure, you're still going to have to replace the steering column (or parts of it) and possibly a window, but at least the truck will still be where you left it biggrin

This ends my sermon, may I have an "Amen" from the congregation wink

It also makes you think that an appraisal would have been in order. Even if just from the ministry of transport.

Lots of friendly appraisers out there. Give them the list of what has been spent on the truck and photos and perhaps you get the appraisal you want.

After a quick peruse of the Internet that would quite a bit more than average 2003 Chev pick up. Hard for the insurance company to evaluate something they can't see. They definitely vary in price, I just bought one for $550, nope it's not any where near as nice as your grandsons but on the ownership they look almost the same.

I guess it's the old adage, if you value it, appraise it.

If someone feels their vehicle is worth more than market value, then maybe an appraisal should have been done beforehand.Lesson learned.

I have had payout dealings with my insurance company.

The thing that made them really move was when I asked "how long do I have to settle this claim?"

She replied with "one year"

I must have lit her on fire when I replied "I will call you in a year"

She said "what am I supposed to tell accounting dept?"

"I don't give a Fock" they gave me what I wanted.

You guys are correct !!  wink We should have had it appraised  confuse   (and I will get "my" two Toys trucks done)

We were going to park it for the winter ....  so we do have until spring to settle   (thanks for the heads up on that)

After I intervened and said my grand son was not settling w/o my permission.  The insurance rep did say they would re-appraise based on the photos

Its a hard lesson for my only grandson that all the add ons do not add value     I have been with Economical for 41 years     We will see....  $5835 was a good start   Carl

Just changed my insurance over to Hagerty. It has the 19A clause. Told them what the car is worth, sent in 8 photos, and 3 days later, it's gone through. No fuss, no muss. BTW I paid a bit more than I was paying before, but no where near what their new price was going to be.

You should still get an appraisal to have it documented!!!  After my "problems' with Hagarty [ not with them anymore] & them trying to get out of claim, it's BEST to have one for when they say "PROVE it's value"

This has already been discussed

OPCF 19 "Actual Cash Value":
O.P.C.F. #19 Actual Cash Value. Limiting the Amount Paid for Loss or Damage Coverage. This form limits the amount payable to the actual cash value or the amount stated on the form, whichever is less. ACTUAL CASH VALUE is the market trend and depreciation value combined limiting the amount paid by the insurance company.
OPCF 19A "Agreed Value":

O.P.C.F. #19A Agreed Value of Automobiles. This form provides coverage for an automobile on a stated value basis. Professional appraisals are required to substantiate the value as per rules of FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMISSION OF ONTARIO. You are not eligible for a 19A in Ontario without a licensed appraisal.

Insurance companies love to take your money then find a reason not to pay. Roll the Dice

If I recall, you had problems with Hagerty because you had a wiring fire most likely caused by old wires. IMO, if owned an insurance company I wouldn't pay out that claim either because it was a preventable accident. I have heard nothing but good things from Hagerty, and it's a hassle free way of getting old car insurance

Hagerty is owned by Aviva I have had dealings with Aviva . Maybe they have hired better liars and cheats in the last few years to turn it into a bit of sport .

The stuff coming out of them and the crap they tried to pull was unbelievable. They did pay large in the end a lot  more then they would of if they acted at all professional.

3 months of the run around is worth something..... Id still rather kiss poison snakes any day. AS I posted earlier This is the law and its pretty clear any dispute over a 19A clause you

had better have an valid appraisal or you will lose in court. Its that simple.

O.P.C.F. #19A Agreed Value of Automobiles. This form provides coverage for an automobile on a stated value basis. After we received a general (blind) appraisal on the truck at  $5835 plus tax less deductable  ($ 6293.00)   my Grandson rejected the offer...disbelief

I had a copy of the info, and I e-mailed the Economical Ins. claims person (Troy Dams) and asked him to look a little harder at the settlement offer...wink

I reminded him "nicely" that I have been with Economical for 41 years  (still am) and that I had many folks watching via "Social Media" smile

I explained that the truck had been mine, and I had given it to Reeve for his first vehicle...

Troy responded and asked for photos etc..  Last Monday we got a note from him, saying that the Economical adjuster was "re-appraising" the truck based on photos..biggrinbiggrin

Today!     Reeve gets news the claim settlement is $9200.00

I want to publicly thank Troy Dams from Economical for interceding on our behalf....handshake.gif

Some times there really is good news when it comes to insurance.

Really pleased that you and your Grandson received a more realistic value for the truck.

Still a shame that it was stolen at all.
