Antifreeze Question?

Here is a question I am going to throw out to readers. I have a 1969 Chevy 327 motor, it has an iron block and heads, the water pump is aluminum, and the radiator is copper. What are the opinions on the different types of antifreeze to use here, and why? What is the difference in using the pink GM Dex Cool as opposed to the green Prestone? I would prefer this time to use an extended life antifreeze so you don't have to change it as often. This is in a low annual mileage winter stored situation. Thanks for any help and opinions offered.

I won't put Dex cool in anything, I think it's worst crap ever made. I would probably buy Peak or another good name brand that's compatible with aluminum.

I agree with the above statement.

As for what do I use?  Prestone from Canadian Tire (last time I bought).

As for possible issues with aluminum parts, I added a (jeeze, not sure I'll get this correct) sacrificial anode to the system in one of my cars (it dangled inside the rad, from the rad cap).  Supposedly, this anode thing gets "eaten" before your aluminum parts do.  Just an FYI, I had a VERY expensive aluminum rad and aluminum intake on that car, also I had aluminum heads and aluminum intake on another that did not have a sacrificial anode and had no problems with that car as well.  50/50 mix is what I went with.

Don't let the "green" colour fool you. Do some research and you'll find out why Prestone should be avoided.

Remember "No OATs" next time you're shopping for some.

Slim, no 1-5 or 5-10 in the lower right corner of any of my replies. Anyone else have problems retieving all the replies that come on their email when they attempt to get them?

Just happened upon this, and I just want to say thanks.
I think I figured out why I was blowing head gaskets in my sled, along with other coolant leaks for no reasonable explanation.
