I noticed that TSC has this welder on sale for a couple of days.http://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us/Equipment/Pages/product.aspx?product=K2471-2(LincolnElectric)
Is this something that is worth having around the house and shop. Not that I would have a lot of demand for one, just once in a while. Maybe more would come if I had one. Also have to balance that with the price that I could use the same money for some more parts.
Good little welder as long as you're using it as a MIG and not flux core. I wouldn't recommend welding anything thicker than 1/8 with it unless it's a butt weld, then you might go up to 3/16.
1/8" no problem
3/16 also no problem
1/4 good clean prep and gapping is key
sweep fill works well contrary to old school beliefs
good care and it will last forever.
I have a 90 amp Miller bought in 1986 built many cars and other stuff
so far had to replace one tip. (original nozzle and liner)
Gas type is also important.
(I use "Blue Shield 8" mix for LOW spatter , roll cages in cars)

So for all that have read this, thanks. I have found out that the unit at TSC is not the same as the one that Lincoln sells. Would never know it as the number is the same. The only difference is the TSC unit has the letter "c" after the number. Apparently they are different. I know this happens a lot in the construction world that I live in. Identical looking stuff from a commercial supplier and stuff sold at big box retail stores are made cheaper for the big box stores as they demand that from manufactures for a lower price point. The stuff is given a different model number and when you go to find it on a web site it does not exist, yet you can buy it. Sorry a big point of frustration in my world.
Lesson learn for me, I get smarter every day.
You have to watch TSC and Canadian Tire prices. They have very high regular prices then when they put it on sale it is not much of a sale as you think. I just bought four Wrangler tires for my 2500 GMC $350. cheaper than Canadian Tire at the GM dealership. You have to look around at the other stores prices and not go by thinking you got a good sale price by just going by a flier saying buy 2 and get the second at 25% off. A pile of crap now a days. The GM dealer will also price match tires.
