When I was in the trailer and RV business up until last year ( retired !! ) we were advising dryer sheets , mothballs etc . The old style anti freeze will kill your pet cat or dog if they somehow get into it so be very careful . The concensus is NOTHING is guaranteed , unfortunately . What seemed to work for one guy , doesn't for the next .......I have no idea why . As mentioned , the electronic high-pitched-noise gismos don't seem to work either . If the storage in in someones barn , the barn cats will look after the mouse population for you .
I used to work at a fruit and vegetable wholesaler and they used hot sweet red peppers. The mice would nibble on them and then drink themselves to death. Problem with that is you can't find them after they die, just an ominous odor. I use a whole box of bounce sheets or what ever brand is in the cupboard.
I put a saucer of Coke or Pepsi out. Dump it every 3 days and refresh. Like El Toro says, they will drink themselves to death but in this case, since they can't burp they basically blow up.
i have about a 1/2 dozen barn cats around that are the first line of defense but i do have to remind the other half to back off the feeding for a bit this time of the year. then i put one of these in a corner of each shop with anti-freeze in it. this year i will put one in the motor home also.
we use to put a couple of them in the hunt camp up north and it was nothing to have a dozen in each can. we used 5 gal cans but that could be scaled down to 3 gal ones in the trunk. they do work.

Yep, I've built a couple of these and they work really well too. I didn't think of the anti-freeze though. I went out one winter day and the furry little buggers had a skating rink going........

I use peppermint oil, and it does work for me..in my motorhome..use plenty..can be bought at most craft or incense stores..Google peppermint oil for mice...They also make an undercoating made and sold right here in Ontatio..google Mouse free undercoating..made with peppermint oil ..
We have used bounce sheets in the RV's and one time they were chewed on by the mice. Wooden traps placed around containers of rat kill have the peanutbutter eaten off but at least they eat the killer. Have a few buckets around and find dead rat like creatures in them. I also thought of anti freeze in the buckets, maybe RV antifreeze as it is cheaper. Modern antifreeze is apparently not poisonous.

I want to try these this year as well. If your using Moth balls...use the old scent not the new flavours. The new flavours don't work at all.

i put a dozen or so moth balls in a cheap plastic container with a snap close lid. then i punch some holes in the lid and put one in the motor bay, passenger compartment and one in the trunk just because it is easy and it can't hurt to do something else also. in the spring i collect them up as the cars come out and put them in a plastic bag with a twist tie for the summer. in the fall i take them out of the bag and give them a good shake and they are ready to go again. the other day i was taking a look at a 40 pontiac coupe i have had tucked in the corner for about 3yrs for some measurements and there was a container under the seat and i took a look at it knowing it had been there for 3yrs and was surprised that the balls were still all there but congealed together and a bit smaller around. i gave it a couple of shakes and knocks and they still smelled.
i didn't know they had different flavor's though. is that for yuppie users or yuppie mice, lol.

we came up with the antifreeze idea due to the stink when they rotted and it didn't freeze up. when we stopped in during the summer the water had evaporated and the stink was pretty raunchy. they basically just drowned in the anti freeze and sunk. i have heard of the bounce thing but never tried it.

My god I hate the smell of mothballs as much as mouse pizz. I can smell a car with mothballs two cars away.
I haven't had any problems with mice for years,,since I made it somewhat of a priority this time of year. I started trapping them inside and out 6 weeks ago.
I have been using a product in my shop called " BootHill ",...It is available from any Farmers Co-Op,..and I guarantee that stuff gets the job done fast and right. If I recall correctly,..you are required to sign for it upon purchase.

So when you bait with say PB are you attracting mice that might not otherwise be there?
That's a hard question to answer. I tried asking the two I caught last night but ........
The way I see it, it doesn't really matter if the peanut butter is bringing them in, as long as they fall prey to one of my traps. End result just means fewer in my general area. Helps me and my neighbours
Chipmunks! I have 20 and they hate those little rodents....they run off all the mice and it only costs me $200 a year in peanuts (damn they are expensive). I bring one for the winter to keep teh mice out of the house.

Lol' I can vouch for that Joe, was installing furnace in a home north of Havelock today, there were two of these gimmicks clicking away in there and right next to the one was a mouse!

Made one of these to day, going with the Nova into storage; thanks for the idea Shag.

I use a bucket similar to Shag's. Only I don't put the roller in it. I just smear peanut butter around the inside rim, about the length of your hand below the top edge and pour in plumbing antifreeze. It's non toxic and the mice don't smell and it can be left for a while. Sometimes I don't Evan use a ramp for them the climb. Works like a charm!
