There should be a fill plug on either the rear diff housing or on the carrier. Unless of course someone has mismatched the 2. They you don't have one. So you can either jack up one side of the rear, pull the axle out and fill with the correct amount of 80W90 gear oil plus Ford limited slip additive, or drill and tap the carrier for a fill plug or cut and weld in a fill plug in the diff housing.

I did read about the mismatch of the older parts, Mine has a plug on the side of the ( I think the carrier ) but I asked them to put in a fill at the top, they forgot then it was powder coated so I only have the side port?
Do I just open it there and fill with a tube until it dribbles out? do you recall approx. how much oil is required.
Just fill till it starts to dribble out . Ive kept an old Lucas additive bottle around for this it has the long pointed tip so its easy to stick in the hole and squeeze the gear oil out.
Im not sure how large the ford limited slip bottle is but most of the time its around 2 L. I normally just grab a 4 L jug . It seems to get used up If you have it around .
Like Slim said, fill it till it dribbles back out the fill hole. The additive is only about 4 oz(put it in first), total fill if I remember on the Ford is quite large, somewhere around 2.5 to 3.0 Liters.

I buy the oil in this style of bottle (pictured but not necessarily the brand pictured), then I use electrical tape (cause that's what I have laying around) to tape about a foot of rubber hose (usually fuel line as that's what I have laying around) to the pointy end of the bottle. This allows me to turn the bottle completely upside down, making it easier to get the oil out of the bottle. You do need to squeeze the bottle to get the stuff out.
Napa used to (and maybe still does) sell gear oil that already has the "posi lube" in it.

Thanks Chips, I've seen Royal Purple bottles like that maybe its gear oil?

Do you still need the additive with Synthetic? someone told me it was not necessary and it may say on the bottle?
Is the additive readily available from a speed shop that will sell the oil?
We use an allen key to check diff/ trany fluid level, just a bit less fluid to clean up if you wait until it is full. I use clear plastic tubing on my bottle. Some fluids used to come with the additive mixed in, check CTC.

Yep, read the bottle and see what it says. If you don't add it and it needs it you will know soon after you start driving it. It will feel like one of the rear brakes is locking up going around a corner.

Ok I know what you mean, I have pushed it in and out of the shop a couple of times and it binds up now and again, there is no oil in it now but I was only pushing at a top speed of a 1/2 mile/hr LOL
I remember that binding on my 4 X 4 while turning into a parking space slow.
Ford's product is called "Friction Modifier"..... just by it from a dealer.....
You can also fill through the vent fitting.
The proper level is 3/8" below the bottom of the fill/sight plug

I tell people "the factory spends million doing research, if they say 3/8" below" I do it.
May be to stop axle seal seepage, stop foaming, vent blow out....?????
