He was certainly a great influence in the custom car culture . I wasn't crazy about most of his work other than the Ala Kart which I felt had outstanding ideas at that time . Having said that I have a great deal of respect for him for his vision and effort on the car scene . Rest in peace , George .
He was a very kind man to me and my family many times. I am very fortunate to have spent a morning with him in LA. He got us into the Vault when we were in LA. Great guy. The car world lost a fellow gear head....Godspeed
Wow , there goes a big part of the reason most of us got into custom cars way back when. The little books and winter car shows at the Ex. Just hoping there would be a Barris creation or something from Starbird, the A brothers , or my favorite Ed "big daddy "Roth. Its the age guys . It was a great time back then. I just hope our young ones have anyware near the fun we had as kids and teens admiring our favorites latest creations and the dreams they inspired. Time to drag some of my little books out and remember. Ed
I had the very good fortune of meeting George and having a very nice chat with him. Respect is earned and George had a lot of respect from many gear heads world wide. RIP George you will be missed but never forgotten.

The little books fit nicely into text books back in high school and you could appear to be "studying" in class ......not that I ever did that , of course .
One of the neat things Barris would do ....I forget which magazine .....was to take the current flock of new cars and do his own custom drawings . I think this was late 50's - early 60's . I always looked forward to those ideas . Of course it would be impossible to do these days since every car looks the same as another , year after year .
