Hi Randy, I was told Pro Comp, AFR, Trick Flow are cast and assembled in China. Edelbrock is cast in the US but assembled Asia. Brodix still casts and assembles in North America. Sad state of affairs...
For good inexpensive aluminium cylinder heads Blue Print Engines heads are excellent bang for the buck. They are raw cast overseas and finish machined and assembled in the USA. I have heard more bad than good about Pro Comp products.
depend,s on ur goal,s. buy as raw castings & fit all good named aftermarket parts. still better than most standard steel heads u wont break into low tens if ur racing, but are a good street head, better than wasting a lot ove machine shop big dollar,s
AFR and Trickflow are still cast and machined in the US. Same as Dart, Brodix, World products, and most other quality brands.
ProAction used to be cast in New Zealand, but they were bought by RHS. The first batches of ProActions heads from New Zealand had porosity problems. I don't know where they are cast now, but they are machined int he US, and ever since they were bought by RHS, they are some of the best bang for the buck heads around.
ProComp have always been chinese knock offs and have had quality control problems.
I have seen them with valve seats that were not concentric, locks not properly installed, valve jobs that look like they were done with an axe on loose seat inserts, etc. If you were buying bare heads and going over them before putting in quality parts, you probably would be ok. That is what all the house brands like Blueprint engines and Summit are basically doing - having the heads cast in China, then putting their parts and name on them.
They are very similar to the Edelbrock Performer RPM head last I looked at them.
