I recently got my 1966 Oldsmobile dynamic 88 ready to go for the road. I've been looking around for insurance and, I doubt Hagerty would insure me, as my car would not always be parked in the garage. I also would like the freedom of being able to drive it when ever I wanted too. My daily driver (1983 olds 98) is insured through TD general. And I guess it's classified as an antique now. Insured just as a regular car.
My 66 is just a driver, not restored, paid $1000 for it. It's not registered as an antique. So my question is, would you think it would be possible to just put normal insurance on a car this age? I was going to call my ins co. And ask, but figured I would ask if any one had some knowledge on the subject first.
if its not your daily driver i would get a price from haggerty. about the biggest thing i know of with them is its not to be your daily car. ie, don't drive it to work is one and something about going to a shopping mall and parking it sort of stuff. i think there might be something about driving into the states but i guess you can get a waiver on a per use basis. it can't be used for commercial purposes either. i got rid of the historic plates as they were real restrictive. as for the storage buy a cover for it. the money difference between t-d and them would buy 2 or 3 high end covers. i'm not sure about the inside-outside storage though, ask them about it. one of their sales spiels is drive when you want-where you want. no harm in asking and read it over before you commit.

The basic restrictions for Hagerty is the vehicle must be stored indoors, cannot be your daily driver, cannot be driven to big box stores, and you must be at least 25 years of age. That's about it !! No where does it mention not being able to drive in the US.
Petebil you are correct except age 25. Its 10 years driving experience. Not age 25. Someone who gets their license at age 30 has to wait to age 40....Ridiculous
I'd stay away from Lant/Haggarty/ Aviva!!! with my experience [all bad]!!! Many others available. I have no problem with going to the US with my cars as long as it's for a car show!!!!

Well, since I went to Canadian Tire and copied my parents car keys, then started "borrowing" their car .... all at the age of 15, that would mean that I would have been eligible for classic car insurance at the age of 25, for technically Petebil IS correct (in my particular situation)
