Hi, I am new to Rodders and new to the Classic car world. I just bought a 69 Ford LTD and I know absolutely nothing about cars. The car is in really good shape but it now won't start - the entire neighborhood believed it was the Solenoid switch so I was able to change that - but it didn't do anything. So, I think it might be the ignition switch. I am looking for a shop that comes recommended that can work on older fords.
Hi there. I am in Campbellville (5 mins west of Milton) and am well versed in old Fords. I started my apprenticeship right out of high school almost 30 years ago.
Feel free to contact me and we can discuss.
Thanks
Chris

OK...wont start........could mean a couple of things.
Does it crank over?...If not, it is the battery, starter, solenoid or something like that.
If it will crank over but wont start, it is either no spark, no fuel or something along those lines.
We need more information.
The first time it did it, I charged the battery and then smacked the solenoid - this worked.
The next time it happened - i simply boosted it and it worked.
The next time, neither charging or boosting it would work. The neighbour was able to short the solenoid using the screw driver trick and I was able to start it.
But it hasn't started since. - so since the solenoid was original I thought I should first replace that as maybe it was intermittently bad. But that hasn't done a thing and I think I installed it correctly - it didn't seem that hard to do.
i think there is power going through to the ignition switch as when i use auxilary, the radio will go on and the lights go on. When i turn the key to start there is nothing, but when it steps back to ON then the radio works.
The battery looks small and is from a kia, I think the previous owner switched batteries. Could it be the battery and could it have also been the solenoid too? The previous owner took great care of the car but didn't drive it much - so over the last week or so I probably used it quite a bit.
Did the car run when you bought it? Put a test light on the start terminal from the key at the solenoid and turn the key to start, it should light up. That will tell you have power from the key. If so then put the light on the output terminal to the starter and see if you have power there when you turn the key to start. Good luck with it.
