I caught a couple of episodes last night and one of them featured a new craze , I guess , unrestored and untouched classics . The 69 Dodge Daytona threw me for a loop

In the discussion they were talking about auctions and shows that cater to these types and they offered a $150-250 K estimate on the Daytona !!  For real ?  Never heard of this phenomenon before ....maybe I don't get out enough biggrin

I have heard of this.....The theory is that a car can only be all original once. Once restored, no matter how nice, its still not original.

Yeah Jay and Jerry Seinfeld were talking about that very thing ( Jerry has 3 unrestored Porches ) ....I guess they get them safe and roadworthy and leave it at that ....not my " cup of tea " but to each his own .

In reality though, is this what it's come to? People with too much money and too little brains looking for retarded ways to show their arrogance? Why the h*ll would anyone dump that much coin into something they can'y even drive? That Mopar looked contrived with all the "patina soil" and pooched interior.
Reminds me of a story we read to our kids when they were small, called " The Emperor's new cloths", P.T. Barnum had it right.

Never mind patina the years of dust is even left on the car at the auction. I think we have reached the top rung of the latter on the collector car market.

Still better than the rat-rod fad that can't go away soon enough.

I am helping a friend build a 70 Daytona clone. Not being a Mopar muscle car guy I am learning a few of the details between cars. The Daytona had a flat back window installed between the sail panels and the deck lid is much shorter. So the deck lid gets cut and a fiberglass panel gets stuck on top and seam sealed. To recreate the back glass a vega rear hatch is cut up and inserted. 70 front fenders are not repopped, so you take a 68-69 front fender and graft the front 6" of a 70 on it.
Yep it's crazy what some Mopar guys will do or pay.
