Kijiji Classic Car Parts Section
Permalink

Kijiji is going through the classic car section and removing all the parts posts. My ads were deleted and there's some parts I was watching that have disappeared now too.

I tried the speak to someone in a live chat feature and here's the conversation below.

I know in the past a number of people have tried to contact kijiji with no luck.

Perhaps if we keep using the live chat (assuming it's a real person) maybe we can exert enough (politely and respectfully) pressure that kijiji will open up a classic parts section. He mentioned he's going to forward the conversation on.

If you go here and click the top right chat button you can apparently speak to someone.

https://help.kijiji.ca/helpdesk/

Warren: Hi there, thanks for contacting Kijiji. How can I help?Me: Good Morning - not sure I understand why the 32 bezel wanted ad was removed from the classic car section. That's where all the classic car parts are posted as you don't have a classic car parts section.Warren: Hello Nick, sure okay so the classic car section is purely for classic cars only. Any parts including classic car parts, should be posted under either "Auto Parts & Tires" or "Other Parts & Accessories"Me: Everyone posts their classic car parts in the classic car section.. there are literally hundred in there. I have other classic car parts posted there as well. It's the section you goto to look for classic car parts. My other ad has been up for a long time and was not removedWarren: I understand, this policy is applied across the board and we do everything we can to identify and remove ads that shouldnt be there. If you come across any ads you feel shouldn't be there you are welcome to flag these ads using the flagging function on the ad, which initiates an investigation.Me: The car forums got together a while back and everyone was reaching out to kijiji for a classic car parts section but everyone just got a generic response and no communication back. There are a lot of people out there looking for classic car parts section. Warren: I can understand completely, what I will do is send this chat across as a suggestion to the production team, so hopefully this adds to the case for a classic car parts category to be introduced. Apologies for the frustration here NickMe: Is there any way I can provide contact info to a real person that I can post on the classic car forums. This is certainly a categgory that will be used by an aweful lot of people out there. Warren: I will certainly send this across as a suggestion Nick, so it will be reviewed and determined whether it can be introduced. If you wish, you can also send us an email with a full brief via our helpdesk here: https://help.kijiji.ca/helpdesk/email-us/Me: as mentioned earlier that's what everyone was doing before - all we ever got was a generic response - everyone posted what they received back on the forums and it was just an auto responder and nothing else ever happened. Warren: I can understand your frustration here Nick, rest assured though, this chat will be sent across with the feedback and suggestion. So hopefully it can be brought about and soonWarren: Thanks again for the feedback Nick, is there anything else I can help you with today?Me: no that's all - thanks for your help. Is there a way for me to follow up and see if there is any headway in requesting a classic car parts section? Warren: Your welcome to contact us again here or by email if you wish. There is no guarantee though that it will be introduced or the time frame, but hopefully it is brought in.Warren: You're very welcome though Nick and thanks again. Enjoy the rest of the day then and happy holidays, bye for now!The agent has ended the chat.

We have the classic car for sale thing on "Used Victoria"
When we look at "parts for sale" there's tons of tires, and lots of chev parts.
Nothing to do with classic cars.
I agree, there should be a section just for old car parts.
Hopefully they will look into it and do something.

I buy and sell a LOT on Kijiji and I can honestly say that I would never have seen any of your parts ads posted if you haven't been posting them in the parts section ... if I'm looking for car parts and not a complete car, I go to the car parts section, regardless of the age of the part I am looking for.  Works just fine for me so far smile

To me, posting parts in a "complete cars" category would be like posting an electric guitar in the "home electronics" category rather than the "musical instruments" category ... you might find a buyer but wouldn't you expect to have better luck posting in a category that more accurately reflects the item you are attempting to sell?

Sorry, can't join you battle as I don't see the benefit ... best of luck though smile

I don't disagree with you - however you're relying on ppl to list things in a manner that are easy to find when searching for them. lol. I'm finding all kinds of good stuff that if was searching directly for never woulda found because of how different ppl label them - sometimes I also don't know exactly what I'm looking for I'm just window shopping. With the early stuff I see lots of times ppl don't even know what the parts are for. But I seem to be finding cool stuff still!

"parts" and "cars" are two different things. I applaud Kijiji for doing this. There's nothing worse than looking for something in a category and having to go through screen after screen of ****. Its bad enough that of ten items on a screen the first five are always the same because they're "paid" ads.

The same BS happens on Ebay - you go into Ebay "motors" to look for a part or car and half the fricken ads are fricken Hotwheels cars !!

My ad also has been deleted even though in ad if anyone bothered to get past the title... would have seen that I had my car up for a possible trade.... So now i posted in with all the other tires.... If you're looking for wide whitewall tires? grab a hot drink and and start scrolling and flippin' pages.
I posted in classic cars so they would be seen by people looking for or owning the older cars.....Now well? someone may stumble across them.

Why do you think they have all the stuff at the check out at any store..... so when you see it when you're standing in line and say Ya I do need a Bar-B-Q lighter and a deck of cards..... See same principle... people need to see items then they find they need them.....

Marketing 101.

People are lazy, they don't want to look for anything.... put it in their face and you'll sell more product.

New years day update...
I guess the kijiji cops have a few days off... ads for tires and parts showing up in classic car section...
I guess they're going to either let it go or maybe should have a classic car parts section.

I located your ad.

hot rod wide whites.jpg

wide whites.jpg

And the text from your ad ... "Four G78-15 and Two H78-15 wide whitewall bias tires.... warn but not bald all 6 for $300. -would trade for Two 215/75r15 wide whitewall radials".

Here's what I'm seeing (regardless of which column you posted this in) ... the cover pic you are using is of a car (apparently yours) with wide whites on it yet you are just selling the tires themselves ... I'd personally post the pic of the tires as the cover photo THEN post the second pic as a "this is what they look like on a car" demonstration photo.

Now, the pic of the actual tires does nothing to show how much tread there really is left on them and the description "wOrn but not bald" doesn't help anything either and there is no mention as to the age of these tires.  You could probably benefit from a close-up of each of the tires that may also include the coin-in-the-tread or an actual measurement of the tread that remains.  Being in North Bay your target audience (locally) is probably very small and with the lack of specifics or visuals regarding the true condition of the tires, I doubt too many would be willing to drive any great distance just to get a better look at the tires in hopes that they are acceptable to the potential buyer.

Basically saying this ... I don't think it you will see any benefit to posting in the "vintage cars" section over the "parts and tires" as anyone looking for wide whites WILL find your ad in the parts section but may not show any interest due to the lack of info in your ad regarding the true condition of them.

I spotted an ad for tires I could use.  Talked the guy down from $200 to $100 before I even left my house.  Drove roughly 45 minutes to find cracked and rotted junk ... I walked away.  I am now quite hesitant to deal with used tires if I am not SHOWN their true condition through pictures.

Not trying to insult you, just offering my opinion on your ad and what I think you can do that "may" help them sell.

Well thanks Pete....
Now everyone on this forum can see my ad, and I didn't even have to post it... Probably not the best place for it though.
Actually this is my second ad after my ad where I offered to trade may car. The reason why it bothered me that the ad was deleted from Classic car section Kijiji Ontario, not just my small town.
@ $50 bucks per tire I would expect the guy who buys them will just want them to burn off on their rat rod.
Trust me if anyone comes across 15" wide whitewall even bias tires without any issues for under $100 each buy them. If you're looking for flawless ones be prepared to pay.

I'm curious.... were you looking for tires and came across my ad? Or was it because I stated here on this forum that I had an ad on kijiji selling wide whitewall tires?

See now maybe you'll understand what I mean about putting your message out there so people see it.

No, I am not looking for wide whites.

Feel free to contact admin and have my post removed if you are uncomfortable with it being here, I just wanted to show that your ad can easily be found by someone looking for wide whites, in the parts and tires category. Which suggests to me that posting in the incorrect category is quite possibly a waste of time regardless of whether or not more people see it. More people seeing it shouldn't really be the target here ... people looking to buy something as specific as wide whites should be your target and they (again, my opinion) are most likely doing their searches in the parts and tires section and may never even see your ad if it isn't posted in the parts and tires column. I doubt very much that wide whites work the way gum, tape and potato chips work at the Canadian Tire cashier counter ... either someone is looking for them or they aren't is what I would expect.

Once I found your ad, I thought I'd take a minute to make some suggestions regarding changes to your ad that may help you sell them (based simply on my own observations, point of view, and Kijiji experience).

Let me be clear on this though ... I don't care where you post your ad as it doesn't affect me one way or the other, I just don't see the point of posting in the wrong category ... I understand what you are saying "more people see it, better my chances are", I just don't agree with you.

Cheers and best of luck with the sale.

What amazes me are the number of idiots who post stuff for sale in the "wanted" section.
