Correct me if I’m wrong but I am beginning to suspect that there may be a dark side to being a hot rod enthusiast.  I have been out in the garage all day installing a kick plate that I fabricated for the passenger side of my ride.  It took the better part of the day surprisingly but that seems to be the case every time I go out there.  Anyway, the install went smoothly and now I only have to do the other side.  No big deal, right?  Well here’s the catch: I had no intention of being in the garage today because I thought I would devote all of my time today to my wife since it is her birthday.  So my question for everyone here is, is hot rodding an addiction?  Or is it just me?  Can anyone top (or do worse – depending on your perspective) than spending all day in the garage on your wife’s birthday?  Or maybe this is just routine for everybody because everyone but me already knows it’s an addiction?

Agreed Ed, and if he is the same boat as the rest of us, his wife is tired of hearing about the hot rod all the time and welcomed the quiet...... or at least he hopes so.....

I'll third that bit of info,we typically have wives who crave hearing that we are in the shop over on the couch messing up their TV programs..If you haven't got there yet, just start falling asleep and snoring while she's trying to watch Survivor,lol..

mmm
I question

did you spend all day working in the garage on the wife's birthday???

ORrrrr

DID you spend the day staying out of her way ... on her birthday ???

and,

if the number of "wife's birthdays" is now something somewhat substantial ... then , you're PROBABLY doing something right

so continue doing what you're doin'

a couple of things come to mind cuddles when i read this, i would wager that when you do the kick plate for the left side that it will probably take 1/2 the time and wasted material as it did to do the right side and yea it can get addictive sorta. most the guys on here have been at it for a long time and their relationships have grown with it, for better or for worse lol, i don't know but it has been some years. missing a birthday is a big one for a newbie but the better half is is partially to blame it happened also i think. try, "i'm sorry hun time got away from me making this pc. i wish you had of mentioned something as the day wore on hun, i'm sorry." but---NEVER say it won't happen again either, not in this hobby anyway. if that don't work get you credit card out as you will be going somewhere nice to dine or a weekend away and/but you will always remember that the money could of been spent on the car. lol

they all make some valid points above and ed is right, take heed.    also the plate looks good on there.

Wow, I'm glad I asked. There are some great tips here. Be sure to give the gifts first thing. Check. I did that. Don't talk about the rod all the time. I don't know if I can do that one. Take her out to dinner. Yup, I covered that one. Maybe she prefers me in the garage on her birthday? Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. Could be. She didn't really complain now that I think about it. Yes, the number of birthdays is substantial so I guess I've been doing things right ... until now. But I only acquired this hobby in 2017 so I still have lots of chances to screw up. And yes, every penny I spend elsewhere makes me think of the next car part I could have put the money toward. A lot of great advice gentlemen. Thank you all very much. I guess leaving her in the car in a muddy parking lot on a rainy night in front of the auto parts store on our wedding anniversary wasn't so out of the ordinary after all. But I do feel like I'm walking a fine line now when our anniversary comes up and she asks if we're going to the auto parts store again. I suspect it has something to do with priorities and I know car parts are right up there. Thanks again everyone.

Can someone please tell me when my wife's birthday is, and while I'm asking should probably find out when our anniversary is

Just keep a supply of things she likes in the garage. Then when you screw up and forget
a special occasion, you can say no I didn't forget and run out and get them.Saves the
acward time factor if you need to run to town Ed

I should add that about 5 days after her birthday, I ran back out to the garage to give her the other half of her birthday present. I had forgotten all about it on her birthday. Fortunately, it was hand made and she loved it so I'm off the hook ... for now.
