Stood in the garage last Sunday with my son, looking at the front end of the Prefect.. I have a 3 core rad, with a electric pull fan. The motor is a 350ci with wrapped headers.
As you can imagine, it gets kinda hot under the hood. The hood has a cal custom scoop, (something I don't really care for).
Anyway, when driving the car, the temp gauge reads 190 to 200 degrees.
Inside the car, it feels like 1000 degrees! I feel I have enough air coming into the engine compartment, but, is it getting out? do I have enough flow?
With the recessed firewall, I am wondering if it is just filling with hot stagnant air? I feel if I can get better "flow" I will be cooler, and so will the engine compartment, and hopefully reduce motor temp as well.
we even thought it may help if we reversed the hood scoop to let more air out!
Anyone faced this problem? If so, did you manage to correct it?

a really big trans cooler with it's very own fan might help a lot to .. somewhere in the back away from the rest of the heat
though I'd doubt your transmission has to work hard "just riding about"
I had a fairmount with a really tall trans tunnel
when I had the carpet out for a few days to power wash it, ..it was hot as hell , just from the transmission heat through the floor
- and that WITH the a/c on too
No carpet inside, just Dynamat. I am sure carpet will help. But that is a job for the future. Over the winter, I will be having custom built headers made up.
I still feel I need more air exit out of the hood!
I removed any rubber rain flaps around the front suspension. If that is not an option, can you open up the inner fender wells as much as possible. This is a good area to draw air from the engine compartment. The area of the hood near the windshield is a high pressure area pushing air into the engine compartment. The 190-200 is not a problem, if you are running headers, that may be the main problem. You may have to wrap them and send the head out the exhaust.
it might run the trans temp way up but maybe some more dynamat stuck to the top of the trans case and bellhousing would help
and maybe something that looks like a trans safety blanket strapped around it .. but not for safety but insolation
lizard skin sell a heat resistant coating along with their standard one so you could coat the underside with heat shielding
I would lose the headers but IF ya gotta have headers I'd build the new ones like Mickey Thompson headers
which were the ones that looked like they had two foot long collectors on them
what they actually were was equal length headers with a super smart solution to create them
primary tubes were bent to fit the motor and cassis and come together as a group of four like any header but the primary tubes are all left their original equal length
the difference in the location of the ends was taken care of by that really long looking collector section
so each tube ends all by its self inside the collector
they worked and had a very distinctive sound to boot
I suggest it as you could make your primary tubes really long to ensure they all run a good portion of that extended collector and in the process you pretty much create a header with a built in heat shield right under the floor due to the double wall construction of pipes running through a tube...
should be strong as hell though maybe kinda heavy

I'd bet there would be good money to be had if one were to start making those long preformed collector pieces
then anyone could make a set like the M/T's with any header and some extra tubing to extend the tube lengths into the long collector
thus almost any header could become equal length
I have a set of super comp 440 headers with LONG collectors and extra tube length added for more low end but they would be really nice if cleaned up with this mod and probably still work even better
Actually not a bad idea. Maybe louvres could be integrated into the hood sides. I still think wrapping the exhaust would relieve a lot of the interior heat.
