Be aware that I am posting for a friend who is not on a computer. Bill said he would love it if people started 'Heads Up Racing' like they used to do in the old days just for the fun of it. He said it is like time trials but no BS as he put it. No prize money. For cars as recent as 72 or 74. They could register as Nostalgia class. He would love it if someone with computer smarts would start up a group to get together in the Spring to run at Shannonville or where the arm drop takes place or anywhere for that matter. He hopes that by posting this, maybe someone will take the initiative to arrange for 10 - 20 people to get together in the Spring for the fun of it. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll pass it on to Bill. Thanks !
The ELTA summer bash has provided that very option! We have a day at St Thomas raceway on the Friday before our street party on the Saturday. 74 and older, run what ya brung (as long as you pass tech), Heads up, grudge match, racing fun.
As for next summer let's see where we are with cover

There is no doubt the ELTA provides this, but it is a long way to go for those of us in Eastern Ontario to get in a couple of runs. I think what Jim was alluding to was something at Shannonville or the Picton airport which is more accessible for those living east of Oshawa. I tried to arrange something like this a few years back and both Shannonville and the airport wanted over a thousand dollars for the day, which is probably way more today, so 10-20 people ain't going to cover it without exorbitant entry fees. If 30 people each put in $50, we could run as much as we wanted all day, but find 30 willing participants and a date suitable to all and the insurance. The Armdrop here is as close as you will get, but you will get in line well over 1/2 hour for each run. If the ELTA went back to 2 day strip time, it would be worth the drive.

I used to enjoy going to Armdrop when it started and one of the best times was the Far From Stock
events at Shannonville . Just ran again and again all day. Now its hard to get more than 3-4
runs in. I would however support a vintage only day at the drags at Picton or Shannonville. Ed
That is correct Warren. Bill was hoping for something closer to home. But he mentioned he'd take what he could get. He just misses the fun of it. He said it isn't as much fun anymore. Too many issues surrounding a simple day at the drags.
He also mentioned to me that his wife recently got a smart phone and she typed in 'Gassers' and when he saw the video that came up, he got goose bumps just hearing the engines roar. Even just talking about it I could see he was in heaven so I hope enough guys get together and it can be arranged if everyone enjoys it as much as Bill. Good luck everyone.
Wonder what the correct way to approach say the Peterborough airport or Buttonville to host a couple events a summer .
say 1980 or earlier only ,to get away from all the Wasaga Beach type issues and maybe shorten staging wate time. Ed
Not sure how technical you want to get. Luskville dragway runs all summer long with various extra events sprinkled in. They also offer a touring series. If you talk to them I bet you could work something out.
