my 1981 Chev pickup has a four speed transmission with fourth gear being overdrive. Apparently it is a version of the Chrysler A833 transmission used by GM as a MY 6. It will not go into reverse! Anyone have any experience with this tranny?
Is the fluid level up? Other than that it may need a tranny doctor. Looks like you are in Ottawa. I can give you the name of a couple of great tranny guys.
Thanks for your help. I will disconnect the shifter to determine whether the problem is the shifter or tranny and then move forward with professional help.
Well the truck sat in winter storage for five months and now is back on the road. I was hoping it would fix itself over winter but it didn't. It was a missing bolt from the shifter mounting to the transmission,,,the one I found in the laneway last year. Regardless thanks to everyone for their suggests.
