For anyone who ever heard the wives tale that irish sprig soap keeps the rodents away - this was the main coarse that was on the floor boards of my convertible - so either they were very hungry, or ?????
Mice will eat soap,dryer sheets,damn near anything,the only thing I have found to workis if you have a crack to foll up is steel wool,I use that in all the corners of my garage doors and jambs!

I agree harry I set a steel one in between the door to my deck and a storm door sit and watch.a trick I use also for rats is to use a piece of stainless wire and tie a piece of bacon to trip.not too big.last year I got 26 mice and 4 rats.I used the big trap for the rats.poison used to work in old days
Take a plastic 5 gal bucket. Poke a hole in each end of an aluminum can and string a sturdy wire through. Twist a knot in the wire at each end of the can so it can spin but not move end to end. Pull the wire through holes in the top edge of the bucket, centering the can. Put 3 " of Anti-freeze in the bucket, put a dollop of peanut butter on the can and prop a stick against the bucket near one end of the wire. The little buggers scamper up the stick, across the wire, hop on the can which spins and drops them in the anti-freeze. Dead mice.

one summer at the cottage we had a mouse.. my mother tried for a couple of weeks to get the little guy with no luck
she was giving up trying hard and one night she simply put the trap in the middle of the frying pan on the stove.. spread a little congealed fat on the trap trigger and we went to bed for the night
about 5-10 min after the lights went out ..SNAP..nomormouse..

You're right DJD they do love bacon fat. Our oldest son has a vacation property on the Muskoka River. He made a griddle from a left over piece of plate to fit one of the bbq's. We have to clean and heat the heck out of it each morning because the little darlings always find the grease. I think the chipmunks are fond of it too.....
every fall i place whole cloves around the inside and engine bay of my car. usually place them inside a small bottle lid . works very well at keeping mice away
