So, one of my long time customers calls me, he has a 2015 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi and he is getting a "low oil pressure code and CEL on". He took it in to the dealer and they changed the sending unit but the light came back on the next day. He mentioned to me that the oil change was done a couple of weeks ago so I was suspicious if the correct oil was used? He was 100% sure it was correct because he uses Amsoil and he brought the oil with him. After checking everything else, I found out the oil pressure was 10PSI lower at idle with the Amsoil filter than it is with a Mopar oil filter. He called his Amsoil dealer and they told him there is an issue with Dodge filters and they will supply replacement filters of whatever brand he chooses. Good on Amsoil for owning the problem but who knows if the restriction caused any long term issues. I'm hearing this second hand and its entirely possible that they will also cover damage claims but what a PIA!
drove my 95 merc grand marquis for ten years it had an oil pan with rust holes that would only hold 3 liters of oil.. ten years , nothing but top ups.. never did an oil change or changed the filter.. ten years .. over 200 000 km..
scraped it at 580 000 km.. it had NO ISSUES . just a rusty body and a space in the driveway that didn't need to be occupied..
the timing chain would rattle when it got really low but it had no cam phasers .. THOSE have issues because of crud in the oil passages that simply can't be fixed by replacing "phaser" parts
< that truck goes 17-20 000 km between oil changes and all I use is quaker state dino oil..
currently has 374 000 km's on it , makes about 300 hp (tuned) and screams like an old cammer gasser with it's unmuffled exhaust ..

Wix are a quality product, they used to make the filters for Mopar. Truth is, I've seen lots of high mileage engines running the regular fram filters as well. People cut them apart and seem to think the end caps are an issue when they are not surgical steel but according to the engineers I've asked about it, its just a marketing thing. I'm still not convinced that the new extended oil change intervals are a good idea though. It may work in the south but I see a lot of sludge accumulation in Canadian cars. I'm thinking the changes in temperature and lots of moisture creates condensation and if it does not get flushed out with an oil change it builds over time. Mazda seems to be one of the worst but BMW and the newer 3.6 Caravans don't seem to be immune.

The Wix and NAPA are "made in China" now, but I guess they all are these days. The only filters I have personally been involved with that failed were this Amsoil and a K&N on my 440 own Mopar. Developed a leak at the seam, weird.
