spare tire mounting

I have a 42 Ford pickup with a mount for the spare tire on the side but the holes in the rim don't line up with the holes in the mount. I thought there must be a bracket missing but the previous owner said there isn't.  I don't know how to mount the spare rim and I can't find a video on youtube for a truck this old.  There are three holes in the mount that is welded to the truck but one hole (in the center) is an odd shape so I thought there must be a bracket. I guess not. The photo does not reveal how the wheel is held in place. Thank you in advance.

I guess I can but I wondered if there is a proper piece that I am missing or a standard method used since these were a standard mount for old trucks way back when. But thank you for that.

Don't spend $200 on a tire mount. Get a plate piece of steel, either weld two bolts on the back or drill and attach the plate to the old mount. Weld two bolts to the front of the plate that match the 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern. This is pretty simple to build, especially for a fellow with your metal working talents.
