Bonfield swap meet/ fleamarket
Permalink

The folks that run the Barrie flea market had their second flea market over the weekend at the Bonfield event park they own.

I live in North bay so I set up my sites and hung out from Wed - Sun..... The small amount of vendors that came out  were great , the staff were friendly and took the time to personally talk to us and got to know people by their names...

The issue that the vendors have is that the prices are the same as Barrie and there was hardly to no advertising for the event which made for a poor turn out all around...

The issues were brought up to the owners and hopefully things get better for future events....

What ever happened about the dragstrip there?

As far as the drag racing goes... It seems like they are still having shows...

July long weekend , Hardly Davidson is going to put drag racing , swap meet and party on at the drag strip.

The park also has monthly events they call test and tune / bracket racing.

Apparently the same crew does the flea markets in Barrie and Boots and Hearts...

Again the vendors in the June flea market in Bonfield were shortchanged by not having the advertisement that $250/site should have ..... Lower the rates and fill the venue.... In my opinion!

Don use to have his vendor chat Sunday morning at the beer tent. You could voice your opinion on issues and he would listen but that was as far as it went, unless it was a benefit for him. We started vending at Molson Park 1981 and moved to the AACA Lindsay swap meet never looking back. Come to think of it I have never been back there to look around after the move to Lindsay.
Is Barry now $250 per 20 x 30 vending site or am I getting that wrong????

 After taxes .... yes around $250..... For a 20x30 ... Same as Lindsay's which are $65

Lindsay also has flushing toilets, running water and the light poles have plug ins for hydro.

I was talking to Sarah (Lisa's daughter) about getting 4 sites when I was at the Bonfield fleamarket.... pre register for the following year, before the event closed on the Sunday was $881 and change , tax incl... if you booked one site today. The rate is $247 tax incl.... If you booked at the last week before... it would run $260 taxes incl.
Same rates as Barrie... and a private out house will run about $175.

I should be on their marketing team.... I just gave them another free ad

Honestly I think what happend is they collected all the registration fees in 2019 for the next show now that it is 2 yrs later they had no money left to run the ads to promote the event which hurt sales, attendance and attitudes towards the event to everyone across the board.

I don't know if I changed any minds while I was there but I did catch up with Ezra (Lisa's brother)... the big dude in the little van)

One evening while he was done work for the day... a buddie and I were making our case about the prices and if it was possible to lower the rates to attract more vendors.... to fill the venue which I feel would bring the public..

My thoughts were that the average Joe walking through would buy maybe $100 worth of junk... the vendors are spending $1000 amongst each other....

Here's the problem(s) with Barrie:

1) too far to travel - which is exacerbated by the following:
2) too much space used for the number of vendors - the width of the aisles means you have to walk every one twice - you can "rubberneck" and cover the aisle in one pass. Gettin' too old for that much walking.
3) to much "****" - live edge wood, crafts, boat parts, snow mobile parts, fishing gear, bike parts. It truly is a "flea market" - not an "automotive swap meet"
4) not enough food vendors

If you were to trim it down to primarily "automotive", it wouldn't hold a candle to any of the Ancaster shows.
