We,re all getting OLDER

So we,re all getting older . And as people around you move on , pass away etc you get left wondering ..WTH do I do now ??

So my painter died . I,m gonna be 60 so he musta been like 85 ish . He painted every car I had painted . since maybe 1977 . he was a master at making a car look straight and shiny . I always got the " car lot special " paint job , cause I drive and abuse my stuff . My stuff will ever be garage or trailer queens .

So we got thru a horrible session with a crooked builder contractor at our last house , the end up selling and moving , and now been here since march 2018 . And finally The Nasty Girl , the old ladys 87 trans am is out of storage and at the house . And its developed some clear coat disease .

The sticker on the plate is 2017 , so that means its been off road and stored for 5 long years . So I go to get hold of my body / paint guy . No where to be found , his son moved away . Guys I knew that knew him , gone or moved away . And I mean like to another province or country .

And finally find out , The dude died 4-5 years ago ??? . Now what do I do . I just need a simple sand , 3 , 2 inch dia rust spots fixed and I want to change from red / silver combo to a bright red monochrome . Local paint guys are talking like 5 k cause its 2022 and I,m still stuck in 1977 looking for a car lot special ha ha . Cant you just sand it down , deal with the three spots and some door dings and blow it bright red . These guys are talking about paint guns ad environment and paint I never even heard of  ha ha .

My three colours for paint jobs .early 90,s  Ford cop car black w a three colour firemist metallic , or not

Milners coupe yellow , actually 75-77 corvette bright yellow ( the bright yellow , not the pumpkin yellow like my 50 is ) with something he added to it stand out

and mid 90,s I think gm poppy red

Guys are acting like NOOOOO its all gotta be water based clear coat now And I just want simple bright red

The search for a new painter continues

I'm lead to believe that red is the most expensive paint.

I get between $1500 and $2000 to spray a single colour motorcycle in correct trim now...
I'm so busy I'm not even doing cars anymore.. I hear Mr. Connery starts at $3000 to
do a bike now...

its not so much about the price but my guy was like an artist . Just a hey man just make it shiny and look flat . And dude would tweak the doors and hood and trunk lid like with blocks of wood and sockets , different diameters of pipes . . Cars trucks would come back doors close with your finger tips / My 56 chebby short box the passenger door closed ok but with some effort . He did a touch up on a scratch passenger front fender a day or two after I pick it up the old lady gets in it and says oh the door closes so easy . Get out , check it , NICE go see my guy and hes like yeah the cab was tweaked a bit and I jacked up under the cab and let it sit over the weekend . I phuced around with that door a buncha times ha ha

You might consider pricing the material to paint your car and then the HR to do the job. Add them together and sit down when you hit the bottom line.

Its not horribly the price . Its the 2022 attitude shock . I got so used to dropping a vehicle off . Ok Dude make it flat , shiny and one of my three colours call me when its done , to of the 5 guys I talked to so far telling me about how , for example , we have to test your paint to see what it is so we can lay a proper base coat ad then do this and then do that ???. And i,m still stuck in 1975 thinking wow I shoulda had Davey redo it when we wet to put it into storage , then I wouldnt be going thru this .
When it went into storage it didnt have clear coat peeling , just the trhee spots and a buncha door dings . Every single of of Daves car lot specials lasted the life of the vehicle for me . All except the mighty mopar my 69 coronet 500 we built a 400 stroker motor ligtenend it everywhere 4 speed top loader . Horrible under hood nitrous explosion , glass hood came off , coolant oil under tires at the 1-2 shift lost control rolled it burnt to ground . That the only one dave painted and paint didnt last ha ha good times
