Usually somebody tells me how wrong I am but no response yet. Maybe I am finally choosing something right for a change? Or nobody has one ?

My understanding is that they last longer than a traditional extinguisher when putting out a fire and they leave no mess. And the bonus is that they are about the size of a flare, very compact. The downside is that they are expensive.

There are some fire extinguishers that take away the oxygen.
Be careful where you install it.

I find a correlation between plans and break downs in this hobby. I won't be buying an extinguisher anytime soon. Another breakdown yesterday. Repairs come first. But thank you for helping.

Maybe a fire is a solution to your break downs.... Just make sure your insurance is paid up... Later you can go out and get one somebody else built and worked out the bugs.

Best advise I ever got was "if your car catches fire, walk away".  The smoke is toxic, flammable liquids/gases in contained environments become bombs.  I personally witnessed 2 well meaning people trying to contain a powers steering fire.  The car was still running so the fluid was blowing out at about 1500 psi like a blowtorch.  Both guys were in short sleeves with full extinguishers.  In the end, both got burns on their arms/hands, inhaled smoke and got hit by pieces of molten battery when the top blew off.  Unless you are a trained fire fighter, wearing proper gear, just walk away.  Even a burning tire will explode with enough force to throw you across a road into live traffic.  According to my insurance company, fire is the leading demise to classic cars, not accidents, not theft.

Yeah, he is right. todays cars are contained system's, fuel injection. years ago the carb fed the fire. the bigger the carb the more more you fed it, so to speak.

Wow, that is frightening. It would be hard to just watch it burn but if you say so. Good to know. Plus I save about $100 if I don't buy the extinguisher. Thank you.

I met some firemen at the Keene Pumpkin Fest and car show yesterday and I asked them about the Element fire extinguisher just to get their view and they said the brand is not recognized in Canada as it doesn't meet our safety standards. Also, they confirmed, if the ride is on fire, stand back and watch it burn. I hope that day never comes.
