I'm looking at getting something different for my taillights. So far I've put ch20240602_150254.jpgrome wrap inside the light housing. Change bulbs to 1157 led bulbs and added a third bulb per side. The light level is hard to see still. Now looking at flush mounted led strips. I don't want the surface mounted type. The pricing is all over the map. What is a good trusted brand to check out?

Use the three regular 1157's, but bring a fat supply wire down to a relay. Use the wire from the light switch to trigger the relay and get better juice to the bulbs. Could make a difference.

A thicker wire from battery to lights could be run outside the car for a quick test.

I don't think the bulbs are the problem. Your lens should be outside the metal work to carry the light. Did you use regular red plastic or refractive plastic like in tail light lens?

 Guessing I should finish my sentences. Checked at the light socket. Both taillights and brake lights were 12.5 volts

What are the current lenses made of and how thick are they - they may be the culprit - maybe too thick and dark a plastic to transmit light.

Three bulbs per side should put your eyes out when lit.

It is transparent red, 1/8" thick.

 Bingo, lol.   there is no comparison in brightness using LED over 1157"s.

I think these could make good hidden reverse lights if they came in white.

Ya I've been looking at something similar. Just bit the bullet and order some up Iguess. Goingtodoabitmorelookingfirst. . Reverse lights would be great but I don't have a way of mounting a switch. The safety netural switch is in the same spot the reverse switch would go. And I don't need reverse lights on this truck.
