Is dialectric grease to be used as well as shrink wrap or instead of ?  Maybe use the grease as well in open engine bays that are exposed ? Not sure ?  I'll be tidying up this mess soon.D929EE79-5ABA-4A10-9991-A6461D9AAAAB.jpeg

Dialectric grease has nothing to do with shrink wrap. It is a conductive grease that is put on areas of metal to metal contact to prevent corrosion, condensation and the build up of nonconductive film.

Thank you Warren. I watched this video - www.youtube.com/watch. - and he clearly did nice neat work and I watched how he used dialectric grease so I thought I was missing something. Now I know what it is for.

Actually, dielectric grease is not conductive, its an insulator.  It should only be used on the outside of a connection to avoid increased resistance.

Sorry, you are right, it is not conductive but rather maintains a protective coating on electrical connections by preventing corrosion between the components, thus allowing better conductivity.

I found out the hard way, coated the female port of an ECM with an 80 terminal connector with it to "weatherproof" against the dreaded white crust.  Car did all sorts of weird things when I started it up!  Getting in back outa there was a trick.
