Hey I know I'm a little late in the season, but is it just me or is there an increase in outdoor car shows charging a fee to us car owners to show our cars, with the spectators getting in for free. Please don't get me wrong, I know there is a lot that goes into them. Insurance, advertising, staff, etc. However, WE are the ones who put in countless hours ( sometimes till 2-3 am) to get our rides looking perfect, yet we are paying for everyone else to admire them. I don't object to food bank donations, but charging US to show? Without US, there is no show for the promotors. Please keep in mind I'm only talking about outdoor, non judged shows. Please let me know your thought on this, as I for one do not agree with this trend. Many thanks, happy motoring to all.
It's certainly a divisive topic.
That's been a sort spot for racers too. It's one of the reasons Smokey Yunick had such a disdain for Bill France.
There are so many free cruise nights that it's hard to charge spectators unless the show is really offering something.
Most shows are fund raisers of some sort. That I can support. That being said if I don't agree with the charity, I won't go.
Most shows have door prizes or draws of some sort only available to the participants.
Realistically, you will probably spend more money on fuel and food etc for the day than the $10 it costs to get in.

It's not only in our hobby... I'd imagine golfers ,hockey.... ect . Pay to be a member and shell out again for tournaments.
See now you can tell people you're kinda like an athlete!

Complaining can change things. Doubt it will in this case so I dont pay unless its something important to me and instead go for a great cruze and hang out with like minded friends.
Lately I am leaning toward an actual cruise for a day of enjoyment with friends new and old but if I attend, I find it less painful if a show supports a cause I favour. However, a $25 entrance fee would go further (for me) toward car parts. I think I saw an Oshawa show requiring that much. I doubt I will attend that one anytime soon. I always find myself in need of car parts.
I went to one of these outdoor car shows and as I pulled up to the gate, I was asked for $20. I was driving the '63 Avanti at the time.
I turned around, parked on the street and walked in. No charge.
I don't mind throwing in a couple bucks for charity or for
a fun event, fall fair or something like the Pioneer Village
event but $20 to sit in a lot ,probably not. My interest is
interacting with like minded people or a fun event other
than just the cars so cruze nights or local events work
just fine for me. Ed
