Progress is slow but I am enjoying the task of tidying up my wiring and I prefer doing it in the summer. It just seems like working on a rod in the summer makes a nice summer memory. Nicer if someone joined me but I'll enjoy as best I can. I have cleaned off my bench numerous times already but you can't tell. Getting rid of a lot of bad connections, connectors and wires. Staring to look kind of tidy under there. Missing out on some shows but getting tired of them anyway. I'd rather cruise. Guess I'll do that next year.
Bench one and bench two.
another day and lots more wire to rip out. I can almost see the light of day under there now. What a mess it was.

You're absolutely correct, 30-S6. It is a pain BUT I am really getting to know my ride AND I understand wiring more than I did. Not a lot more but more. And on a sunny, summer day, the only thing missing is someone to converse with and work with like I see in all the vintage photos. Other than that, progress is slow but steady. The old wires on the bench aren't even half of what I pulled out. A real mess. So many wires just ended --- didn't attach to anything. I know I am making errors but hope to catch them in time before I close things up. Even if I screw things up, I am better off. One run often had 3 colours of wire and bad connections with wire visible. Youtube helps a lot and a neighbour helps when he has the time to offer some advice. I know so little but more than I did. Still glad I am building my own harness.
I have a 55 amp alternator. My ride never started on a turn of the key first time. It always struggled a bit when cold. Yesterday I figured that a 55 amp alt. requires a 6 AWG wire. It never had that big a wire before so could that have been the cause ? I'll pick up some 6 AWG wire today.
Your engine will start without an alternator. Is it slow turning over or does it turn at a good rate and just not start. It is more than likely your carbs are draining back and need a couple of revs to reload. It is still a good idea to have the right gauge wire to carry the current from the alternator to the battery.
