I need to find the vin number on my 42 ford pickup but can't find it.

I looked on the dash and on top of the frame rail on the driver side in front of the firewall.  No luck.

I looked on the door edge and the door frame.  No luck.

I understand it is also on top of the bell housing but that's no good to me. I can't get a camera in there.

I need a photo of it for insurance.

Is it possible that my Krown rust proofing is hiding it on the frame rail ?IMG_0621.jpeg

Usually... in front of the steering box. Ford did stamp a number on the transmission/bell housing. Not on the motor as they were in and out and switched.

Or... behind the steering box in front of the body mount.

Tell them the number is on the frame under the cab and that you are not taking the body off. You have an ownership and that is that. Here is a nice little discussion that may help. www.ford-trucks.com/forums/162603-vin-location-for-a-42-a.html

Should be a tag on the firewall. Drivers side IIRC.

I did some research and if I'm right, there were no vin numbers before 1954. However, there was a number stamped on the plate/tag mounted on the firewall and sure enough, that is what I have with a number on it. The insurance company wouldn't accept that at first but now they do. Thank you everyone for helping. Now back to wiring the rod !
