I watched a lot of youtube videos on wiring, many promoting the purchase of a portable printer to make labels BUT if you already have a desktop printer, labels for wiring is still easy. So don't buy a portable if you don't need to. I wrote up a document listing all the things that demand wires in my ride, set the font to times new roman and the size to 12 (or maybe it was 10 ?) Then printed off the list. Then just cut each item from the list, roll it over a wire and slide on clear heat shrink. The heat gun sealed it nicely and wire is clear and easy to read. Hope that helps somebody. On my 16 gauge, I think I can make the font a bit smaller and it is still easier to read than what came in the kit wiring.
Chris made a valid point but if we have the time, this works PLUS I found a lot of the wires in the kit were difficult to read on the different coloured wires and the font was very small. Conversely, I was able to make the font size whatever I wanted and even on different colour wires, the white paper under clear heat shrink was much easier to read. I guess the down side would be that the wire isn't labelled repeatedly along it's length. I just label the end prior to the connector but this might be worth considering for those with the time. Thank you guys.
I used to install elevators. There is a multi-flex cable that can have up to or more than fifty wires in it.
18 gauge and some 14. All numbered full length. That would be handy for wiring a car.
I ended up with a "Painless" wiring kit for the '51. I think there are more wires that I will need.
I also used a painless type of wiring kit for both of my builds... When I bought them I ordered a larger kit (22 or 26 circuit I believe ) just in case I wanted to add more.
Any changes or additions I wrote down on the instruction pamphlet supplied with the kit so I know exactly what is what ...
When I sold each vehicle I handed the wiring instructions to the new owner so they know exactly what was either changed or added...no guessing and no nest of red wires under the dash.
