Winter Tires

I have been swapping out summer and winter tires for years. The winter tires are much better for Canadian winters.

Both my summers and winter tires are worn out. I have been researching and there is a tire out that claims both winter and summer use .The are called All Weather tires (not all season). I am trying a set. My mechanic says they are softer than all seasons and a bit harder than winters. Granted they will not last quite as long, but a lot less hassle with changing, storage etc.

My winter driving is pretty optional, if it storms I can stay home as I'm retired now.

Anyone else tried these yet?

We've always swapped too. Once or twice I've tried " all season" but they were pretty noisy in the summer. We haven't tried the type you're speaking of Poncho, but keep us posted om how they work out for you. I'm sure a few will be interested.

Wise man told me, get the right tool for the job. Muilti tools always compromise something. Never be afraid to spend money on stuff that keeps you attached to the ground, tires and shoes, brakes come close as well. Your call but once something happens, especially in the winter it's to late to change then. One of the better things I've done is going to winter tires. Makes a big difference when driving, even when the roads are clear. The tires and roads are cold, reducing traction.
My 3 cents

I use dedicated "winter" tires. I too don't like the idea of an "all purpose" tire, there's always something being compromised and traction in the winter is too important. We don't get the snow storms we used to, but ice and slush scares me, and we get lots of that.

It is my understanding that insurance companies pay attention to your tires and when something bad does happen, they take that into account. Apparently insurance companies like dedicated seasonal tires.
