Yep, ever since Haggarty bought them out seems it's going up. I've got a quote from another co. for my 2 cars & as soon as Lant's policy runs out, I'm gone!!!! 64 has doubled [stock] & 52 is way too much[ modified]!!!!

A Firebird is considerd a sports car, insurance will kill you.....Look for something like a Nova, bascally the same frame and drivetrain, but since its an economy car, insurance is much cheaper

Seems there are quite a few of us in this situation...no Someone has to be willing to take us on.. How else are the planning on have a client base years from now if they turn us all down? Do they not see if we took the time to save up, buy, fix and or resotre a car or truck that we MIGHT just MIGHT  care about it enough not to be an ass with it confuseconfuseconfuse

Any suggestions on who may be willing to give us a break would be greatly appreciated.

I was with Frost Whetter Oakland, which sold to Lant, Hagerty I believe, and I got shuffled to them automatically for renewal.
BUT in the fine print of all the crap they sent me there was an option of calling RSA which they had been the broker for.
So i did.
They kept me on and my premium was exactly the same as before, unlike the Lant/Hagerty which was almost double.

Also i found out if i had not called Lant to tell them I was not renewing with them, and just insured else where, I would have been cancelled by Lant for non payment, which would end up on my file till the end of time.

Joe Pesci said it best,,"They f#*k you, they f#*k you, they f#*k you!

I have been with Echelon now for a while. There modified rates are not bad and like previously stated very few restrictions. There was a broker out of London that was at the Perfromance World show in the spring that was a few dollars cheaper. I decided to stay with Echelon just because it would of been a hassle getting all my cars appraised again. See if your broker deals with Echelon if not P.M me and I will forward my brokers name and #

275 monthly while driving and 20 a month for theft and fire for winter. I don't know the exact mileage per year but I told them I live in Havelock and work in Brampton 3-5 days a week. Also Its a daily summer vehicle. I pay a little less for my winter beater cherokee. Its through a broker but the insurance company is Intact. If you can get your adress anywhere away from a city your rate will drop drastically. I was quoted just under 500 month with a Brampton adress.

Yeah, that's who I'm going with, Pete !! I spoke to the guy that runs this insurance company in Lindsay, and it's actually the Son of the guy that used to run Whetter&Oakland. I can hardly wait to tell Lant to take a flying F#@% !!I hope they all price themselves out of business.

I have the business card of the Lindsay company in my car, and can get the name if anyone is interested.

Personally I think there is alot of great insurance companies in this province. Most have been mentioned here. I agree Lant is not for everyone any more but, some of there restrictions are unbeatable. Especially for Modified cars built in the 90`s or guys with previous claims.

Just make sure they provide a legitamate OPCF 19a ....
The Difference between Ontario Policy Change Form 19 and 19A:

OPCF 19 "Actual Cash Value":
O.P.C.F. #19 Actual Cash Value. Limiting the Amount Paid for Loss or Damage Coverage. This form limits the amount payable to the actual cash value or the amount stated on the form, whichever is less. ACTUAL CASH VALUE is the market trend and depreciation value combined limiting the amount paid by the insurance company.
OPCF 19A "Agreed Value":

O.P.C.F. #19A Agreed Value of Automobiles. This form provides coverage for an automobile on a stated value basis. Professional appraisals are required to substantiate the value as per rules of FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMISSION OF ONTARIO. You are not eligible for a 19A in Ontario without a licensed appraisal.

Well after using the Silver Wheels plan that was offered many years ago, I was getting coverage through my insurance broker. All was great, I sent them updated appraisals every two years, I never really drive the car that much anyway and I have Historic plates on it also. In the last 10 years I've put maybe 4,000 miles on it, mostly due to the lack of time to enjoy it.

Well I just come to find out last week that my "special" (to me) car was insured under the same car insurance company that denied my first claim in 25 years or more this winter when my daughter's Corolla's wiring completely melted to a crisp, exposing all the copper on 80% of the engine wiring harness and bulkhead, they denied the claim as a "mechanical malfunction", which is not covered under the fire coverage clause.
So I flipped out at my broker, cancelled all my insurance, no way in hell I'll have my pride and joy insured under INTACT INSURANCE, they're just too shifty for me.
So after doing some research, I think I'm going with the HAGERTY plan, they have less restrictions and deal specifically with classic cars, not the cheapest, but $330. to cover a $25,000. appraised value is not exactly a rip off either, $1/day for peace of mind.
I'd really hate myself, if I had a mishap, and wasn't covered due to some "clause" from general insurance companies.

AVIVA is another one when you put in a claim will out right lie to you . When you call them on it they will make up a new one. If you deal with them you better have a strong heart and long fuse. last dealings I had with them it took 3 months for a cut and dry simple claim. They lost and lost large by dragging it out. Id say 99% would of caved long before or buy into one of their Liam Lie's.

Just switched insurance today, was with RSA through the broker in Lindsay that sold his business to Lant last year. Got the appraisal updated and went with Zehr who is also a broker for RSA. Same coverages, value actually went up $3500 with the new appraisal and cost dropped $225/year. I don't know if these increases with Lant came as a result of Hagerty joining up with them but Tony's rates used to be some of the best, now they are the highest for modified vehicles. Was at a show the other weekend and Hagerty had a booth there staffed by a company rep, asked him why their rates were close to double those of other companies for identical coverage, his reply was "their hungry for business", my reply " they got mine".

I'm not going to defend Hagarty on their agreed value but the policy I had with them was OPCF19a, so whether they would pay the full policy amount in the event of a total loss is to be seen, like most insurance companies they have an army of lawyers. FYI, I was an appraiser for 22 years, when Hagerty came to Canada with their agreed value, I shut the business doors. Keep in mind guys Crosslands and Zehr are simply brokers, not the insurance company. They both sell insurance for RSA.

When I needed to insure the 32 I called my insurance guy who has always been great with great prices. We have two regular cars and have two kids 21 with a g2 and 16 with a g1 and we pay about 1400 a year for both.We also have our house with them for about 400 a year.Anyway when it came time to insure the 32 I never asked for a price but I wanted it insured for 100 grand,he said no problem all he needed was so receipts that would equal that price and I wouldn't need an appraisal so I brought them a armful and I was covered. He called later with a price of just over 1800,I thought that was high but I let it go.It was about a week later I was talking to vintage at the toronto show and he had a price with same coverage for a little over 700 dollars.I had a buyer for the car so I just left it.I never had a claim so I can't say good or bad. After bringing this up with my broker he said Hagerty was the only company they could deal with something about some rules. They sent a lot of good info online and provided a roll back in case I needed a tow but now that the car is sold I think I'll do a little better checking around for my next ride.

I have found that Crosslands is the best.... Number 1 they don't lie!!! Number 2 they are Canadian.Number 3 they are the cheapest.Number 4 they don't gouge your pocket with hidden cost. Yes they require appraisals. They only way to receive the full value on your claim is if your car is appraised. It is the only way to get a OPCF 19a. Which guarantees you get the price on the appraisal.
Hagerty is trying to get out of paying by making sure you don't have a witness on the value of your car.

I even have confirmation from Brad May of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. That if Hagerty is issuing OPCF19a's without Appraisals the will be charged under the Commissions law... So please E-Mail me your agreement where it says you are covered under and OPCF 19a. bryan@classicandrod.com

Nobody has sent me any E-Mail proof that Hagerty offers a OPCF 19a.... I have a multiple copies were they state "Agreed Value" but, no one can prove they got a OPCF 19a without an appraisal....

I just got off the phone with Lant and was told nothing has changed with my coverage other that it ALMOST DOUBLING from $133 to $250. I was told it is still based on the OPCF19a "Agreed Value" based on my appraisal.

I'll be shopping around next year.

Oh, buy the way, some people have suggested Echelon as they have no restrictions! I called them and they told me I can only use my truck for please use and no driving to work or parking in parking lots unless there happens to be a car show on at the time! Do your research guys so your not left with no coverage. I have no found an Insurance company that allow unrestricted driving under a modified vehicle policy with the OPCF 19a coverage.

If there is one out there please let me know!!!!!!!

250 a year ? month?  If its a year with no restrictions with the 19a rider I dont think you are going to find  any better. I dont think they want your buisness around here for 250 a year more of a hassel, then anything to them. No point in waiting for renewal Id check around now . They might of offerd you the best deal in town. Still shaking my head 250 a year I wish.

Yeah, that's $250 a year for my $12,000 truck with the regular restrictions (pleasure use only, no parking lots, etc, etc.). I'd rather pay $600 (with the OPCF 19a) for the 9 months of the year I drive it with NO reastrictions.
