I watched this unfold live or most of it. The other day another soldier in Quebec. Run down by a white man who turned extremist.

This is NOT a middle east problem. There are many people living across the world who pray, go to work, and live,law abiding families who just want to raise kids, and leave a a positive footprint in this world. A handful of extremist are not a country. Bashing a country is not fixing the problem. I know people over there who hate them as much if not more. I feel sorry for muslims who just want a normal part of life like you and I. They are people not all are bad people. don't think for a split second I am defending these callous cowards who take the life of our own. But there is many muslims who are canadians must live in fear be snarled at because of their faith.

I was horrified watching this today unfold as I had my thoughts and prayers with the family of the soldier so COWARDLY shot down. A senseless cowardly act who took the life of a hero. NO PUNISHMENT IN THE COURTS would ever be as equal to what happened today or the other day.

We all down the food chain have been imported here. For me, my family came here in 67.

We also need to honor those who rushed in as those who rushed out. More will unfold as to who and why. Time will tell.

please some of us fellow gear heads maybe of muslim faith, or have family or from the middle east. I know a few car guys who are. I wouldn't paint everyone with the same brush. I think you might be surprised with news happening now, they are probably not from the middle east.

They are not all "Muslims" (lack of better term), many of them are born and raised in America and are "White".
What I don't get, is how they are able to "recruit" them?, what do they offer them? etc...that is better then this social life that we have.

I don't want to Google search it to find out, in fear of losing my job. We go to extreme security background checks, due to the nature of work we do. It's an international security check, ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations), I'd lose my job in a heartbeat if I researched it and they'd find out.

I don't think a loaded gun would have made a difference as the COWARD snuck up and shot him in the back. The poor lad never had a chance. If they had loaded weapons perhaps the other guard could have stopped him from getting in to the parliament buildings.

An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10am. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, like I said, I' m tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-bitch.

If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys.. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We'v e been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.
They could lighten up on the obstacle course however... I've been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too... I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year- old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way.
Let us old guys track down those terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million pissed off old farts with bad attitudes and automatic weapons, who know that their best years are already behind them.

What gets me, is the government, and government watchers still insist they can't just go out and arrest these know traitors. Take a look at the laws concerning "Treason". The definition has it covered in the first six words..."the crime of betraying ones country" which is exactly what these homegrown traitors are doing. It goes on with "especially by attempting to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government". These clowns have already indicated that is part of the agenda. So what's the big hold up? Round them up.

its time for our own gitmo and not on some tropical island. maybe some of that multi-multi millions we spent, sent, up to the native reserve way up north might of been better spent building our own gitmo and hiring the natives to work there. if nothing else we would have some say on how and where the money is-was spent and create employment to actually help instead of just sending blank cheques.

Loaded or not may not have helped this soldier. They were attacked from the back while standing on guard. Very specific duties assigned to the guards, I don't think being armed would have helped.

Funny how some people think waiting in a parked car to run over people and shoot people from behind is great for the cause. What cowards.

Their C7's (Canadian version of M16)are real, but they had not ammo and the bolt mechanism wouldnt have been installed. If they were armed, the perp. wouldnt have made it into buildings. But these guys are soldiers, not police officers.

You realize that a "Muslim" is akin to calling someone a Christian, or a Jew. You can be born on Mars and still be a Muslim. Both of these perps were Muslim extremists.

ISIS is able to recruit people, just as the KKK does, or any other organization. Go and fight with them and they'll pay you $1000 a month. They appeal to young impressionable people. Western countries poking their noses into other countries tends to piss people off. There is a cause and effect for everything.

I doubt you'd lose your job for simply researching the recruiting tactics of, terrorist organizations, no matter the security screening. Fear not!

I can GUARANTY you without a doubt, that if I were to access, research terrorism, in anyway shape or form, I'd be GONE.

The US military, as well as the civil aircraft as listed in the ITAR specifications state so.

And I did state (lack of better term), next to Muslim. Call them Islam, call them Arabs, call them extremists, call them... I think most people know what I meant.

Either way, I've yet to hear anyone refer to them as Christian extremists.

This is standard military protocol. I am not a military man, and had to ask one. My first impression of this was what you said. An excerpt of the explanation below.

Carrying live military weapons in such a public place would be very difficult. The weapons would have to be secured when not in use, along with the appropriate weapons handling protocols. Also, you have remember that while this sort of thing is military in nature, it typically takes place in a civilian setting. Which means there are legal issues regarding the use of deadly force by military personnel against civilians if live weapons were used. Often, by law, the military cannot carry live weapons in a civilian setting. That's what police are for.

Harper was hiding in a closet. I don't see how this is nearly a relevant argument.

It's not the MPs job to go out and fight in a situation like this. They did what they should have, barricaded in, waited for the professionals to get this thing sorted.

That said, They were lucky to have the right man around.

Vickers is Hero, with a long career as a police officer and public servant whose training and years of experience were there when needed.

I always thought he was just a guy in a funny hat.

I agree, if you are a known terrorist/criminal and in Canada as a non-citizen, you should be out.

I think the framework for this kind of thing is already in place. I remember some vietnamese gangsters in Calgary getting booted. Naturally, the whole thing took

a very long time, courts being what they are.

I have a few personal friends up on the hill. My wife has her share in the city, It was a rough day. At that moment, I wasn't worried about partisan nonsense, political division

I, as a Canadian was worried about everyone up there. Harper included (i'm not a fan of his, I would never wish anyone up there harm). Actually, when it came out that it wasn't really

known where he was, I was feeling pretty sick. Last thing we needed was an attempt on the PM.

Its all to common though after these sort of things for everyone to demand tighter, tougher laws, remove more and more freedoms etc. Its a natural reaction. I think that a sane, thoughtful approach is in order.

After all, it's exactly the Terrorist's goal to restrict your freedoms and change your lifestyle because of their acts.
