Yup...Im gonna start fixing it up, as soon as I cut down that tree growing up through the window........

It makes me furious but its their cars to do what they want with them... Still I wish they would realize that somebody could actually do something with them instead of letting them sit and rot.

no kidding, for where its sitting its in very good shape. Its sitting up on railways ties , but someone stole the drivers door and a few other parts off it and kids smashed the windows out, but the owner still refuses to let it go.

HOLY **** Chad you have all the luck. Some of thoese coupes are pretty sweet looking project, hell they all are, but man how do you find all this stuff.

What a shame... On one hand though that 56 looks abour as rough as this 55 chevy I am doing for a guy right now LOL.

Seen it happen way too often, these have been sitting for well over 30 years.

 

from my few experience i seen lot of the can t be bought cars end up at scrap yard or if they do decide to sell the price is just riddiculous ..................

i think lot of people want something different than what we been seeing ........not sure if a gasser type car would pass mechanical ?

The guy to get to know is the local scrapper when he hooks one tell him to call you if he is like most he is in it for the money .most scrap yards don't want stuff hanging around too long no profet in that, late model yards scrap the fastest ,parts yards hold things longer ,get to know these people and what makes them tick find out what they need and trade them for the car you want ,maybe they need a boat,trailer or a washing machine.Use your heads sometimes they need some help with something roofing,fencing or a deck what ever works. Sometimes you just have to move on and find another one and there usually is another out there it just depends on how much money you have ,how smart you are ,or how hard you are willing to work. Ed

This is going to sound very pompas or uncaring but I guess I am just past the point of worrying about things that I can't do anything about.I have been going to the same wrecking yards for 30 years and the same cars have bin sitting there for years.The 20sand30s get picked over and whats left rots onto the ground Next the 40sand 50s same thing now its the60sand 70s.They are out there and are for sale maybe not for a price you like but they are out there.Almost every guy I know who is into old cars has at least 2or 3 projects that they are going to finish some day.Everyone knows they won't realisticly finnish them but they own them and you never know maybe when the kids are gone,the house is paid ,when I retire the cars will be my nestegg.There are lots of cars on kijiji that people say just need to be put back together,just need a little TLC you know the usual crap most are good buys as you would never be able to build them for what they are selling them for.A car is worth what the seller and buyer agree it is worth not what some magazine says.Point is there is usually a good reason that these cars are still rusting away in yards, there is nothing left of them, and old guys like me have been striping them of anything useful for many many years.So don't feel bad when you hear of old cars being crushed chances are they weren't cherry finds anyway.And look at it this way every time some peice of crap stripped down rusted into the ground truely good for nothing hulk goes for scrap it makes all of ours worth just a little bit more . Indeed, most things out in the feild may not be cherry, but being a young guy myself, I never got to grow up in an era when projects were a dime a dozen. So it is kind of dissapointing to see something scrapped that could be had for a less if your willing to put more time and effort in to bring back to life.

this one has been sitting in a garage for ten years.  this is the first time it has seen the light in a long time.  covered in bird crap.  and when I decoded it.  one of 348 sent to canada.  even came from the factory with a luggage rack on the truck instead of the wing.

 

I agree flatblack.....My 55 Chevy, I traded an old Beaumont for.........62 Pontiac cost $700.....and my 51 F1 cost $300, if I remember correctly.....They all need a pile of work though........Over all however, I think I spent less than 3 grand on each.......That was over 20 years ago, may not happen today, even with my NAPA employees discount....lol

If you want a older car think out side the box. My Valiant is way out side the box but $1000.00 bought me a California 3rd owner car so its a 4 door. I have had all kinds of cars from a red 1966 Chevy II show car to a 1971 Gremlin . I love old cars but just cant take the car hobby seriously my best and most fun cars have been flat black beaters my old 1947 Ford was built olskool before olskool was cool. Then was my $500.00 1966 Cutlass that was lowered shaved scalloped and driven dally with a total of around 1500.00 including the four chrome reverse wheels and new tires. The Valiant you can see in the project section aswell as my 17 year olds 1965 Ford 500 he bought for $1400.00 and it is also original paint but from southern Saskatchewan. If you want an old car they are out there if you want an old car cheap look for the off brand or off beat.

 Gasser cars are a breeze to get through a saftey..I have built 6 in the last year and a hlaf for guys and never had a problem.. And they went through legit safties

Hate to say it but it seams that lots of cars are comeing on the market now that were as my kids say part of the hoard .We have been to a couple of estate type auction sales where decent cars 50sand 60s(granted oddball makes and body styles) were selling for just a little more than scrap prices.The way it looks to me is that at this time lots of cars are being dumped to help people pay there morgages,and prices are droping as the market gets flooded. Ed

This 61 Chevy has been sitting here for years.

still makes me sad to see all that rusting away.
and think what if.
I guess I got lucky with my dodge.
I knew of the truck and I called him up and he was ready to talk not to sell but just talk.
at the end of 2 hours he came around to selling.
this was his dream and its hard for some guys to part with the dream
even though they know it will never happen.
in the end if it is meant to be....

Where are you finding all these cars? I drive the backroad north and west of Mississauga and haven't fond anything as yet.

Backroads of Missisauga!!!.You have to go where there aren't any street lights or sidewalks.They are out there you have to go to small towns and ask the locals.The hardware store, the gas station, the parts store .you usually can't see them from the car cause if you can the local cleanup comitty probably got there first .You have to get out of the car guys.You would be amazed what you can find if you ask the right people---politely. Ed

Just outside of Rockwood there is a wrecker with fields of the old stuff. I even go out sometimes with just the camera.
