Used to go there all the time........things were getting pretty shabby the last time I was there about 15 years ago....I heard they cleaned it out, maybe not
Just a short story about a car that couldn't be bought, but was.
I have an elderly neighbour who had a 1928 "essex-hudson-terraplane",, (that's what he called it anyway.) Ok , so over the years he was offered a number of times $$ to buy this car. NOPE--No deal, going to put it back on the road someday. (Same story here.)
Anyway finally he's in his early 80's, and his wife becomes terminally ill. So he says maybe he should sell the car, as now he's too involved with carring for his wife. -BUT-- he doesn't know how to try and sell it. I suggest he should advertise it in "Old Autos", and give him a copy to look through. In the meantime, there is quite a story behind this car, it is near mint for it's age. He bought it 58 years ago, with a bad motor, it had belonged to a lawyer from ??Ottawa. In the 1950's he had totally rebuilt the engine, and over the 58 years had bought a spare engine, trans, rear end, And some extra sheet metal, hood fenders etc. Every week as he passed it in the barn, -(Yup, stored in the barn,) he would crank the engine over to keep it free. The interior was almost mint also, with kind of a blue valour fabric, rug rails etc. and almost perfect glass. So,,, FINALLY he decides to advertise it, ok, so i called Bill Sherk about this unique interesting story on this car as he had all the documentation on the car written down in an old scribbler from day one, on info he'd got from the previous owner/lawyer. Being shy, no he didn't want a story about his car and refused to talk with Bill Sherk about it. Anyway the new ad came out on say a monday, and by that late afternoon it was sold to a collector from S. Ont somewere. Next afternoon it was loaded and gone south.
The point in this story is,, he'd kept that car for 58 years,,,, but NEVER once drove it!!
i stored my 55 gmc in the back yard at my dad's place for 10 years while i was on the east coast. he eventually got sick and tired of people knocking on his door to ask if it was for sale. the last five of storage it was in the back of his car port cover with insulation and a canoe and people still asked if it was for sale.

A relative of my wife owns a 30-31 Model A coupe. The body shell was "stored" outside, on the ground, on some property just west of Marmora Ont (just south of Hwy 7). I tried to buy it but was told "I can't sell it". Asked again a couple of years later ... "nope, can't sell it". I used to drop by the property to see the coupe on the way to the family cottage. Stopped going to the cottage when my boat was stolen (Bobs Lake, Bolingbroke area). Got a call approx 2-4 years ago, the coupe body shell had been stolen (what is it with eastern Ont?). Guess It really is a "can't be bought" car now ... well, at least not by me.
PS Anyone know someone who had a Model A coupe shell (with doors and t-lid and all windows ... ancient light blue paint that had been partially stripped) suddenly "appear" at their place between two and four years ago?

I have heard of the place but never been. There also used to be a guy called Elmer or Earl who had a old yard just stuffed with old stuff out near guelph.
Almost every car i have ever owned is out at McLeans Wrecking yard.... Amazing place for parts and picks. And John and his brother Doug are the fairest guys around !!

Old Elmer Bird... Thats his name I know the old codger quite well LOL
There was a lot of old tin and muscle in a huge yard in a small town north of Oshawa called Kendal.
It took a long time for the owner to sell me what I needed for the hideway's for my goat.
He only wanted to talk and not sell, even had his own power from a small river dam.
I heard something about it has been cleaned out, had lots of good times wandering around with my sons.
paul jackson that ran that yard, passed away a couple of years ago. the brother who own's the yard has a relative there on thurs and sat if you want parts. the yard is well picked over. the good stuff is at the top of the hill.

If anyone knew of a 30's coupe roof and posts that would be suitable for a vintage modified racecar Only need from the belt line up , like whats white in this photo minus hood and trunk
If you have or know of something out there send me a message
Some can be. Just brought this out of a backyard in the "burbs" where it's been stashed for 25 yrs and in his other two backyards for 5 years before that. This is a copy of the picture the first day he bought it and brought her home to fix up.
Local guy had a '34 Ford 3-window coupe sitting OUTSIDE on his driveway for 40 or 50 years. No idea why it wasn't INSIDE the 2-car garage attached to the house (his daily also sat outside). Occasionally the tarp would blow off, then get put back on. Car was NOT for sale. Fast forward to 9 or 10 years ago ... he finally did something with it ... he had it hauled off to LowDownHotRods (spent HUGE $$) and had it completely redone (you can see the pics of the build using the link to the build on LowDowns site included below ... for some reason, LowDown doesn't allow copy/pasting of any of their pics). The owner is in his mid-late seventies now and this was his high school hot rod. It was shown at Performance World soon after the build. I find it more than strange that I have NEVER seen this thing on the road since the build. People who went to school with him aren't surprised that it never gets driven as they claim he never drove it as a teenager either. To each their own I guess, but I can't understand why the expenditure of a LOT of funds, for the complete redo, if there was never any intention of driving it. He never married and no kids so someone might get a smoking deal at his estate auction.

I think as us older guys fade away, our 30s 40s &50s cars will depreciate in value . Most younger people are not into the older cars because they cant relate to them. I see them on kijiji month after month ,there owners trying for top $. It takes about 2000 hrs to build a rod from the ground up,so to pay 5g or more on a clapped out roller is just not realistic anymore. Just my opinion.

Ya,I often wonder why I stayed here . Should have gone to California, being a hotrodder and all. We should build 4x4 rods so we can enjoy them all year long !
