im only 30 but have had about 10 vans now my current 64 is with me for life, i blame my grandfather for my addiction he had a bunch of sweet ass vans back in the day
here is bob chances song " here comes the van man" its good for a laugh
Here is a stupid question for you to concider .What happened to all the custom vans from the 70s van craze. There were thousands of them.Gulwing doors ,hugely expensive custom art work, bordello interiors complete with bars!!.Where did they all go ,are they in garages ,were they scraped,I would think after all this time the fad would be comeing back.Just wondering. Ed
When I worked at Canadian Tire as a tire buster years ago (1980's), there was a guy that had a beat up Coca Cola "DenimMachine" Ford van that used to come in for tires and oil changes. Poor thing didn't get much love but I think he did a lot of camping in it as he had a stove and fridge set up in it. There was only 15 made for the Canadian contest, wonder how many still exist?

i know of 2 vans around here that were customize backin the 80 s and are still hidden one is done short wheelbase used to run a 427 and pop wheelies everytime he would take off ,he other is chopped like the yellow 77 dodge on this page
There still is truck'ns or shows, there are still van clubs in Ontario and its still alive just not every weekend from may to october anymore lol, they allow pickups, panels, import trucks and low riders, I still attend when i can after 36 years. I just don't fall down and pass out as much, i can even find my way back to my campsite at night. Al Brown of the St Catherines/Welland area who hosted the very first van-in back in the early 70s recently passed away, he was the godfather of vanning he was in his late 70s and still was very active in vanning, Al Brown was a member of Syndicated Truckers Van Club . He also had the vision to start a newsletter (no computers back then!) called the Ontario Federation of Truckers, which provided a means for clubs to promote their events and set up dates that did not conflict with other clubs. That concept was perhaps the seed that later grew to councils and the massive Council of Councils that are held every winter. ( perhaps rodders should consider this)
My buddy purchased one of those Coca Cola Hot Rod Magazine give away vans last year. It needed lost of work. There is another Coca Cola Hot Rod Magazine give away van in the Sault 5 min from me but the guy wont sell it. He won it way back when and drove the hell out of it. It is sitting in his yard and getting tired, but he wont sell it cause he said it is bad luck to sell stuff that you have won. Too bad.....so sad....

89xl I'm out and proud about my love of vans!!! A buddy of my Dad's bought a new Dodge van in 76 and spent a couple of summers customizing it in our driveway. Lots of tiger print fur, CB, flares, louvers etc. Went to lots of drive in movies at Kennedy and Lawrence in that van. That's where the van affliction began. Never owned one though. A van and a station wagon are both on my list of wants.
The van scene in Ontario is still pretty big compared to a lot of places.. Every year there's a vanners weekend near London..my wife made me sell my van.. Feeling the shag carpet and cool Interior wasn't "baby friendly".. But I loved that van.

It's " making baby" friendly though. Boom chicka chicka wa wa!

Most of these vans look familiar! I sold mine about 5 years ago to buy my dart, and I miss it. Had her about 17 years and belonged to "Flying United Vans" out of Guelph. Had many great Truck Ins and memories !!
My friend Rob from Newcastle has a 1978 Chev van that he bought brand new,had it customized in 78,and still has it in his garage, been off the road since 1984,I keep bugging him to get it back out, someday
