what he means is the entry level cars and such. No bad vibes a place for guys who might be a little shy if they think there ride may not fit. Every one fits here.
i think the car hobby has or should have room for any different level or budget .............but sometime it is not what some of the hobbiest show at cruise night ............ i met lot of the high class with the attitude type who just plainly ...............s#$%&(^ ........... just cause they have $$$$$$$$$$ to get the best .........with my project cars i sometime feel like putting lots of money which in my budget translate to not over 12,000 and lot of times i feel like the end result will just be the same as making my 56 monarch 4 door a road worthy car ............may be having friends at the end that enjoy the same kind of ride is probably what would count the most
I have done 3 or 4 major rebuilds of cars (55 Chevy, 62 Pontiac, 77 Ford PU, 51 Ford F1) and have not put more than $3000 into any one of them. Granted, that was 20 years ago, but you get the idea. I just cant afford to have someone else do it. If I had oodles of cash, I might think differently, but such is my life. Guess I am a LOSER......lol

Its not a bad thing being a LOSER we have a place for you up top.

Doesn't matter what kind of car you got. Once its older than all these new plastic disposable cars, and it just gives you a great feeling to be driving it is what's important.
If it doesn't give you that warm, fuzzy feeling, I would consider getting something else. Its all about what floats YOUR boat.
This truck belonged to a vary good friend of mine that I met when I was 14 his lost his battle with cancer two years ago. He drove the crap out of this truck and I would like every one to do the same because you never know when your last chance will be.

Thought I'd try and get this post back on topic. I think this 4 dr. fits the original post by Workin class:
"Any one here for the regular old car guys buget builds cool drivers four doors and orphans hell wannabes and dreamers need to start some where. They have a place."
Helped a friend drag this honey out of a garage two weeks ago. He paid the 78 year old owner $300. Car was last registered in 2001. Interior looks like noboby ever sat in it. We had it running in 30 minutes.

Spied this neat Duster on my way home to Toronto last Wednesday. Dived in off the 401 for lunch and parked beside this little Twister. I saw the young man driving it, about 20, he said it was a one owner car, 225 slant 6 with Twister package. He was using as his daily driver.
It's more about attitude and appreciating the efforts that the owner has put into the cars. Whether they did all the work themselves or whether they payed someone else....don't matter. My cousins an accountant...Has a great collection of cars. One of which won at the Alantic Nationals(32 ford PU). He doesn't build them, just cleans and takes care of them but...He's the type of guy that will toss ya the keys and say lets go for a spin. Attitude can make all the difference.

Its all attitude never said a show winning 32 cant be a beater its all how people look at it. This thread was set up for guys who have the attitude that old cars are all about fun. I dont care what you drive as long as your not an elitist. I got into the hobby years ago when building a Street Rod or hot rod got you chastised for destroying its resale value. It had nothing to do with making money it was all about driving the car. I know guys who couldn't get there cars appraised because appraisers looked down on rods those were the good old days before the 80s investment is every thing mentality. I love old cars and want to see as many on the road as possible. Vintage beaters rule.

Thats a great car for the money. A set of Dodge rally wheels black out the grille a little lower would make a nice driver.

Hope this sort of fits into the "Beater" description.
Back many years ago i had a temporary driver , a 53 chev, it was the toughest car i ever owned.
One unique thing about this car was one night myself and a few buddies, (and no we didn't drink or smoke pot,) drove this 53 chev up a set of railway tracks on a spur line, on 4 rims, on the rails. A scarey ride as we were praying it didn't jump off the rail, or a rim split in two, as the noise was considerable late at night, or that some distant neighbour in the area didn't call the local "Fuzz". That engine was tough as nails, and when i eventially scrapped the car we tried to blow the engine up, it ran and ran wide open sitting there untill it boiled the rad empty, then quit. After it cooled while towing it to the scrap yard, i tried to start it in gear and it started again and i then drove it to the scrap yard!! It did run kinda rough, but it just wouldn't quit.

Took photo on Blackberry, sorry for quality.
I get this one but I still wouldnt drive it all winter with the salt we use. I drove a 1966 Cutlass as a all year driver it lasted 5 years before the frame broke in 4 places.

A couple years ago I bought this 64 Biscayne. 71,000 original miles 6 cylinder with a powerglide. I thought I would fix it up a bit and flip it-but I ended up driving it for a year. After a little elbow grease, some mechanical repair and a little detailing,it turned out to be a pretty good car. I can say that having a couple more doors didn't cost me any fun whatsoever. Nope-you don't have to spend a ton to have fun with old cars.
I am an appraiser. Old School. I have appraised cars for $1000 and ones for $110,000. If you have fun driving it, I am cool with that. All cars are cool. There is nothing more fun than drivin an old beater. Old is better than new in my books.

Yeah man that's a nice car! Love the inline 6!! Nicely detailed... I will say I'm a fan of straight six motors (300 six in my truck) Nice ride... and there's nothing wrong with havin 4 doors
would it better if I put a price of under 10 grand or the lowest priced koolist car or truck you can build or afford. I like to include as may people as possible in the old car hobby . So a challenge take pics this summer and talk to as many low buck car guys you can find. I love low buck cars guys having fun. I have met allot of people in the regular car parking at shows and cruise nights these guys dont think there old car would be accepted if they entered. And some people will say stupid things I know Ive had it happen to me but thats part of what I consider fun.

This is my entry....a 1966 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Decent body, ratty interior and has some electrical issues with the lights but runs good. Have $2300. into it including a parts car.
even if i had any one of my project paint ,,,,,,,,,i would probably not enter car show and at cruise night would still park far away
Why not park with every one else. Its fun when your car is different from the norm. I get alot of comments both good and bad but wouldnt want it any other way.

If this worked it should show a picture of my 55 Pontiac that was written of last September. I drove the bag of this car for 7 years. I had a total of $4500 in it.
I have about $5g's into my 57' plymouth right now. I am trying to decide which engine to swap in.
The $100 rebuilt 383 that will need a trans, or the $200 413 that was a good runner and has a trans....
Been a while since I fiddled with Mopars but can't you just take the rebuilt 383 and mate it to the trans from the 413 ... far as I can remember, they had the same trans bolt pattern.
I was looking over a 66 GMC inline 6 3 on the tree last weekend, considering it as a daily driver. Buddy needs 3800 bucks for it. Maybe a little steep but complete and fairly solid. My daily car (2003 Caddy) is dying a slow death and needs more money to keep it going than its worth with the 327,000k's on it. A carbureted pre-88 driver is a must and sliding it into a cruise night would be fun if I can't make it home to grab my 58. Saw an add at Antique Chev today for a 77 (?) Omega for 5 g's or so. A stylish car now- parts availble at any jobber- easily wrenched on and a different ride . Why not? Old is good.
