I have about $5g's into my 57' plymouth right now. I am trying to decide which engine to swap in.
The $100 rebuilt 383 that will need a trans, or the $200 413 that was a good runner and has a trans....
Been a while since I fiddled with Mopars but can't you just take the rebuilt 383 and mate it to the trans from the 413 ... far as I can remember, they had the same trans bolt pattern.
I could, but I would rather have a fresh trans behind the fresh motor. 727's are cheap to rebuild anyways. I am putting the 383 in her as soon as the trans is done.
My daughter picked up an original 48 Chev Stylemaster 2 door. She paid around $2200 for it. We dragged it home and had to replace a head gasket. After driving it for 2 summers she blew it up. We took the opportunity to rod it, I picked up a 85 Cutlass from a co worker for $500. we were able to use the front clip, engine, trans, steering column, brake pedal, master cyl and everything else we could un bolt. The car still has original paint and interior, and for under $4000 she has taken it from Memphis, to Daytona and beyond.............. not the prettiest car, but sure is cool to me!
Now lets see some more pics of budget builds and how much fun you are having! Politics are for Ottawa...........cars are for cool cats!

PS> if anyone has good bumpers or grille for one of these at a reasonable cost, i'd love to help her take it to the next level......................
I only wish my build would be drivable, for under 5K. I've got more then that in the trucks purchase price and mustang II front, and lots more $$$$'s and time before I can drive it. LOL, at best I could probably bolt up the all the body panels and wench it on a trailer and drive it around.
Your daughter's ride looks great, I hope she enjoys it.
Thanks guys, it does prove that you can still build em reasonable.........Now here is my younger daughter's roadster. She dragged it home from Ithaca, NY , My good friend Chris (RIP) welded up the frame for free. the engine is a 153 Chevy four banger with a 700 r trans and a ranger rear axle. The paint is safety yellow enamel from a yard sale, and again everything is scrounged. 4 years and about $5,000 . Once again a budget ride ............lots of blood and sweat in this one.............
not really a roadster, actually a cabriolet that someone had cut the roof off and rolled the top of the doors. it was pretty tough body when she found it.
Here is a Pontiac wagon, she wants to fix next, only a little water damage
Great job on the Stylemaster DavyJ. I have about $4500 in my Mercury pick up. Most of the money was spent on front axle, spindles etc from Speedway, air bags and compressor, and rims (all new). Had I spent more time scrounging and was willing to not do a few things I could have done it cheaper, but it wouldn't have been the way I wanted it or done as fast. As they say, good, fast or cheap, pick 2 out of 3.

I'm in the same boat as some, more time than money. My truck I picked up off a farm for $500. I used up a whole sheet of tin, a gallon of bondo, found the rims on kijiji for $100, the M/T Streets for $50. I had to put on a muffler, emergency cables and a control arm shaft for the safety. A couple quarts of Tremclad later she brings smiles wherever she goes.
Yeah, I know I messed up the name , should be Custom Royal but I'm changing the car up so I thought I'd best to the name too,ha,ha.. AT any rate, I'm at a point in my life where the family, kids and work have almost made it impossible to keep a cool car around, seems that every time I got one together I'd have to sell it to buy diapers, bicycles, braces or whatever.... So I have devised a plan that is so stupid it may work this time. I had an opportunity to take two 56 Custom Royal sedans in on a deal for next to nothing, no cash out of hand either, sort of a junk trade. I brought them home, assessed what I had and started scheming... I have a very rough ,complete rusty car and pretty good western car that had been taken apart , mechanicals had been done and they were starting to attack the body and seemingly lost it to the bodyshop for not paying or something along those lines, didn't care, didn't ask. I have the good one in my garage now, have decided to cut the roof off, rake the windshield radically and chop it . This will make it a sort of four door speedster if you will... I'll occasionally post photos but this will be a whenever I have an evening to fart with it project so bare with me, could get interesting?? Here's the good shell..

Add a couple more dollars. Just put on the grill trim. Thanks to Bill's Truck Shop, Courtice, ON
Trying to keep some restraint on this one so it might get done before my kids graduate...so I think they'll be swinging in their normal direction for now...

Thanks Chris, yeah the avatar is one of my favorite pics of my crowded play room............ the 32 is a dream car that was just finished a couple of years ago, a homebuilt car, done with the help of a few friends, The 38 is my wifes, she dragged it home about 17 years ago from the triad. paid a thousand bucks for it, then sold the drivetrain for 900, Took 12 years to put it together on a shoestring............and yes, they are all driven and have never seen a trailer..............
Hey, it's all about having fun and enjoying our hobby without putting yourself in the poorhouse or neglecting family, right. We went to a few H.A.S.C. events a few years back, some of the guys turned their noses up at our none-stock ride. Not to knock H.A.S.C., it's a great organization but a clubs members need to keep an open mind and remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Nice truck Rusty....
If all goes well with the trailer arrangements, I should have pics of a 1972 Vauxhall Firenza up here soon. I've got the cash, truck, gas money, incidental cash (hotel, food)...and a wife that's a little peeved ;). It's the perfect project! Was going to swap out the original engine and tranny, but I bet I can get it to run now. It's only been off the road since 1990. Gotta love carbs and points :).

48Poncho, nice solid looking coupe, that will be one sweet ride soon...............got the stance down right and the wheels are tucked in nice. just a few more incidentals and you are away to the cruise nights!
I've grown tired of the "popular" musclecars to the point that they rarely turn my head anymore. It's the long forgotten stuff or oddball ride that gets my attention now. Would I love to have a 70-71 Mopar Ebody or other sought after high dollar car? Yes and no - The high cost of parts is insane and then I'd be afraid to drive the thing. I want a car or truck that I can use, abuse and park in my driveway without a 600volt security system attached to it

I though another bump would be in order. If you look at my avatar not all THE LOSERS drive junk Kenny's 32 ford was as high tech as they came in 1980 when it was built running full Jag suspension.

1970 Pontiac strato chief 2 dr hd top 350 with 3 spd std trans bought from a buddy for 1600 bucks , the wheels went onto on Ding,s 86 trans am , an are now on her 87 trans am .
My 55 in my avatar, although took too many years to get on the road made it there for right around $3,500. It's still not got all the bodywork finished and still needs odds and ends. It looks fine to me running it through the gears looking through the windshield ! I can't see the flaws that way but HEY I made the flaws !
