We all have heard the joke about using the old lady's dishwasher to clean car parts........Anyone actually used one?...The wife bought a new stainless steel dishwasher last week, matches the kitchen now......I have this old dishwasher in my garage. Just got to thinking about that old story....lol
I haven't personally used one but I've repared many after they were used for this purpose .The grease and dirt goes striaght to the pump and what does get thru clogs the drain Buy by all means anyone in the area go ahead I can always use the work and the laugh. If you do use it I recomend Flowers as a peace offering. This reminds of a good buddy who put a wiring harness in his machine just because, well it came out really clean. He left it out in the summer sun and it dried up worked fine. I wouldnt do this but hey he is single and no one is looking over his shoulder.

I hear it's the best way to clean pistons. Years ago I worked for Motorola fixing really old computer main frames that still had a lot of installed base out there. The keyboards were those heavy diecast bases and top. We used to disassemble them remove the PCB's and wash the bases and even the keys in a mesh bag in a diswasher we had in the lab. We even repainted old ones or touched them up. It was kind of a neat part of my job more like my hobby! Hard to believe in this throw away society we live in today. Mind you I was working on computers that were as big as a fridge that had 640K of memory! Dollar store calculators have more power now LOL!

if i would have the brains i would modified one with the pump from a part washer and make the drain like the part washer ........than just pattern your idea
Yea Me! I've done it. When I rebuilt my VW engine, all the cruddy tin work, nuts, bolts, pulley...It really didn't work as well as my beer thought it would.
My uncle runs a company that installs and services milking machines and equipment. He uses a dishwasher as a parts washer at the shop. He has said he gets about 8-12 months from a used dishwasher, and there is usually someone either giving one away ot throwing it out when he needs a new one. I do know the parts he cleans aren't as greasy as car parts and maybe thats why they last as long as they do for him. I also know that he uses the sanitation option to sanitize certain parts as well...
