That is sad. That is why you have to build your cars and enjoy them with your family. Life is short. No time to worry about BS.

Very cool video! Thanks for sharing Stu. That engine is a true testament to things that were built to last...not this disposable/non-repairable stuff we have today. (sorry to rant...)

Hope Don gets up and around soon.

I had a chance to interview Don in 2002 for a magazine article and met his wife, very down to earth and very modest people, for all they have in assets he also lives a very modest lifestyle for instance i am sitting on this green chesterfield with oak trim he caught me checking it out rather closely, i laughed and mention that i was just clearing out items from my mothers estate and just threw out the exact piece, i mentioned i remember my mother buying it in 67 when my sister got married, he chuckled my wife has had that dam thing covered in plastic all these years and we probably bought it about the same time, there was a guy coming to recover it in plastic again (you remember those cheesy almost shrink wrap plastic covers on chairs and couches). Dons other passion is horses the one HP with 4 legs and a tale.......

I had some great pics from my interview with Don and Pat, but now i know what was lost on that computer that crashed 5 years ago,

I here Don is back at home and doing well........

Re: Fired up a Hemi powered Victory Siren:

Years back at the nationals at Indy, i had the pleasure of seeing the drive on rollers set flush with the ground, they pushed the dragsters onto ,(like Dyno rollers,) to start them just as they pulled into stage. The rollers were Hemi powered , the engine was sitting down in a kind of pit.
Back in those days , at small tracks they'd just push dragsters down the track to start them, but that was way too time consuming at the nationals.

Most awesome was standing there watching when they fired, it would blow your'e hat off!!

Don Garlits is fine. He will be the guest of honour at next months BC Classic & Custom Car Show in Abbotsford BC. Tell your friends in BC to attend. This is going to be a great event. I think 20,000+ people will attend.

If you haven't read Garlits autobiography it's well worth the read.

Incredible last minute chances he took at the nationals to win or loose!!

Can't remember the name of the book, but i ordered it through "Interlibrary Loan".

Your'e library should be able to get it.

Forgot,, Back in his early days Garlits was winning on the east coast, and decided to head to California to try the Nationals there. Scrounged up enough $$$ to make the trip and won there, totally shocking the california "Hot Shoes" of the time that this geek from Florida towed all the way there with his old hemi powered rail with the 6 2Bbl carbs!!
He was not popular there for quite some time!!
