Story of my life, but this refers to the d/shaft in the 52. I have a tremec 5 speed with the frt.'yoke' from Tremec. Yoke is 4" long on slip section & 2" goes in the tranny. I contacted Tremec & they say I need 3"+ in the trans. to be Safe!!!! So Story of my life "I'm 1" too short. I've driven the car up the street w/this set up But I guess I'm going to "bite the bullit" & get a d/shaft built for it. I see theres a shop adv. in Old Autos in Lindsay?? Anyone used "Lindsay Drive Line on Needham st.??????????

I grew up in Lindsay, and know the place you're referring to... unfortunately I don't have any personal experience with them to share with you, but I will ask some friends back home about their service / quality etc...
you could try jacking the back end of the car up until the wheels are off the ground. See if the driveshaft comes out of the trans. Before you jack it up, put a mark on the yoke. After it's up, put another mark, remove the driveshaft and see how much was left in the trans.
Dan and MAt at Lindsey Driveline are the best - period! I have been dealing with them for years for shafts and such for our pulling truck - the stuff is indestructable.
As to shaft length - heres the scoop You push the slip yoke till it bottoms out - then move it back out 1" and thats it. You can fudge it mayeb another 1/4" but then you are pushing it.
The reason it has to be so deep is there is a brash bushing in the tailstock that must be fully engaged so the yoke doesnt wobble under load. If you pulld the yoke too far it will wobble, will vibrate and will msot likely at the wors tmoment - break the tranny.
Yup what Seeker said is right on... I just asked a good friend back home who has dealt with them many times (he has them build all his derby car drive shafts) and he couldn't recommend them enough! He deals with Mat and said he's never had any issues with anything they've ever built. So sounds like they are your best bet... After talking with my friend, if I ever need anything done that's where I'm going!
Just got back from dropping off the old shaft at Lindsay drive line. Was impressed with Matt's knowlege. Took one look at old shaft & said 'that's not going to work, it's been shortened, out of phase & not balanced" They will build a new tube 1" longer Said it will be done in 2 days, under $300 BONUS!!!

It's too bad you don't live near me in Sudbury. I just built a drive shaft for my '31 Chevy. I cut the existing shaft I had, chucked them up in my lathe, and cut the welds off. I then brought the 2 end pieces to a place up here in Sudbury called Mobile Parts Inc. They cut to lenght/welded/balanced the new shaft for 95$ cash!!! If you lived closer, I would prep your shaft for a bottle...lol

Thanks for the offer,but it would likely be 2 bottles,as 1 would be gone by the end of trip there!!!! That is a "really" decent price, but down here in the "south" overhead is more so the price is too. I was satisfied with price as I thought it would be closer to $450 to $500
