Also attached body from doors  to rear valance to the sub frame...and stretched front cab 1/4 inch to fix door gap

Joe, Scott...glad to see your following the build. You guys are always welcome to stop by the shop (as well as anyone else with an interest) same admission as always...large, 2 milk only! Just call ahead in case Im putting time in the "Ruth Bank" (got to put the time in the bank before you can take it out....and never be overdrawn!)

Scott, Im thinking of coming down for the pumkinfest....(No rain) I'll let you know

Joe, this build will take about 800 hours.....we should be done by Megaspeed (hoping)..... it all depends on how much time Kevin is prepared to put in. We are about 150 hours into it already.....but we are starting to see the light!

Glenn, Are you talking about the Sunday car show. So far the long range looks good for Pumpkinfest weekend. Look forward to it. This has been one of the biggest, fall time, car shows in Southern Ontario. If the weather is good, it will be packed!

Once the "Beans" are off I will call to arrange a visit.

We have started hanging the rear axle (even though we are missing axle shafts...long story)

We decided to build our own trailing arms and 4 link set up. We will have 2 trailing arms running from the axle to the back of the car and attaching to the frame, the upper locators will be forward facing.

Next step, upper arms and horizontal air bags.

Sorry guys, just finished the thread & as soon as those wheels showed up & body sitting below them, that did it for me!! "NOT MY CUP OF TEA" as they say!!! What are you going to do if you "have to" put fenders on it??? No offense but I just don't see it!! maybe I'm too old!!!!

In Ontario isn't there a limit of time that the inspector can be held liable for their inspection. I can't recall if it is 30 or 60 days, after that time they are no longer liable.

As for fenders (coming from the offroad world) you have to have an effective way of reducing overspray, be it fender coverage or mudflaps as per the HTA. No where does it state that you need these things, just states you have to control the overspray, so if it is not raining, they have nothing to go on and you can fight the ticket. The HTA is pretty vauge and leaves alot to be interpreted in this area, but seems to mostly come down to the weather.

Well.....where do I start.....

First.....We build what we build to be different. Not everybody is going to like everything we do but, I hope you can appreciate the work that has gone into the car. If we all drove yellow 32 coupes it would be pretty boring. If the only mag wheel you could get is a Cragar 5 spoke, why get them to be like everyone else? I have been building cars for 30 years and have been to car shows throughout North America...Seen cars I would kill for and some I've hated...but still appreciated the work that went into each. Over the years I have taken ideas that I like and stayed away from what I didnt and changed some things to my taste from what I seen.

Second....The fender...no fender issue has been covered in other blogs. My position is this......On dry days there is no spray to control.....Sooooo dont drive it in the rain. I have built several cars WITHOUT fenders and have logged 10's of thousands of miles and have YET to be stopped for NO FENDERS. As a matter of fact I have had the chief of police (Niagara Falls) go for a ride in my car....and he thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Not one word about "No Fenders". There is a loophole in the HTA that covers the no fender issue if you get stopped.... and that states that you can drive car to a repair shop to have the spray issue corrected. Ultimately....If worst comes to worsterest? I would hang quarter fenders off the axel to cover the back section of the tire only (and paint them to LOOK like the tire) I'd hate to do it, but it would cover the issue.

Third.... A safety inspection is good for 36 days...but as stated by Mr Haney....even after an inspection an inspection station "could" feel heat if a car is soooooo far from safe. I only build safe cars. No cobbled POS. Only the best Brakes, lights, wiring, frame, suspention, tires, glass that I can find that fits within the HTA requirements. Yes, I do push the limits......but still within the HTA for that kind of car.

I do have a problem with where some people have taken the "Rat Rod" thing to.....I have seen cars that I wouldn't even let my x-wife get into to just sit....let alone drive down the road!

Sooooooo the bottem line is this (to me) Build unique cars without compromising safety or style to the best of my ability within the guidelines of the HTA

Getting back to the BUILD

I have been working on the rear suspension with a cantilever air set up....when I get it working properly I will post a whack of pictures.....

Not denying the workman ship going into this car,it's beyond fantastic!! I'm just not a "fan" of the "underslung, wheels up to the roof" look!!! I'm on the more "tradititional" look of a Street Rod!! I've seen a few "rat rods" that I wonder how they can sit in it & be comfortable sitting on the floor,or on 50's farm tractor seats!! & how the hell they can see out the windows????? & yep, seen some that are so unsafe wonder how they got inspected!!!

Looks cool and very interesting.

Question out of honest curiosity. Are there regulations on bumper height or lights? I know that tires cannot contact the body but is there anything else height-wise?

We have talked about air....but we are building a twin turbo 355 and dont want to clutter the front of the engine, so we bought a small heater core. I use one in my car......doesnt get "Hot" but takes the chill off. Last year I had my car out throughout the winter......cool, but bearable enough to undo my jacket while driving down the road at 60mph......or warm enough for the wife to come for a ride ;)

Yes...... Headlights have to be 22 " from ground and "Should" have bumpers.... we might do a push bar in the back and bumperets in the front.... we'll see when we get there. But the lights will be at the correct height.

Yrs ago I had a 23 T-Bucket w/no fenders[ 1970]. Every dam time it went out got stopped & ticketed for it!! Think the cops in Scarb. at the time had a "bone" on for hot rods. Yes I beat it everytime in court but was a PITA having to keep going back & back etc. They just wouldn't give up on the tickets!! Finally started going to 42 div. & get the sarg. on the desk to cancel the ticket ea. time I got one!!!!

If you think the trunk is full of rear end......take a look with the rear suspension with the air out of it. The rear comes up to within 1.5 " of the top of the trunk lid.

I made a bunch of brackets last night and will be installing the air bags this weekend......hopefully?!

31 coupe rendering.png

Sorry, this should have been posted waaaay back. This is a rendering of the car. Phil, our shop bitch, did it. Very accurate....pretty good, but I would never tell him that.

And these are the colours.

As far as the drive shaft goes....it will be VERY HIGH inside the car. The whole frame was built as an underslung frame. That means the axles and evrything else is above the frame.

Different for sure. The floor of the car is the lowest part of the car. The floor is accually a belly pan ....smooooooooth..... the trunk floor will be the same. When you look at this car from the bottom all you will see is a smooth panel. Ill get a picture of it and post it on Monday.

Sure, it will just look like a console or something. Don't think it will be low enough for an armrest though.

Turbos are gonna move that thing like a bat out of hell. Sweet.

As for "looks", there are a lot of guys liking the "old school look". Carbs would be more that way.

I prefer something different myself, so turbos are gonna be sweet.

No matter what you decided, I still would of said "good decision". biggrin

I was thinking that too but I can't find 500CFM blow through carbs and it would be a nightmare tuning the car and I'd have to equilize the pressure from carb to carb...

I could but I really don't want a mess of wires and injectors to deal with either.

I already have the MSD E-Curve Distributor and 6BTW MSD box that will control retarding timing with boost. Just need a carb and away we go.
