Gas Prices Spike Tonight up 4.5 cents/L
Permalink

Going up 4.5 cents /L tonight and are going to $1.47 by mid April. The predicted overnight price spike is a result of a lead Ontario supplier’s decision to increase wholesale prices by 4 cents — an estimated 4.5 cent increase at the pump with harmonized sales tax included.

I am shuddering to think about 94 octane prices this summer. "Wild Thing" loves 94...A LOT

Question:

Will the prices going as high as predicted effect How and How Much you drive your Rod this summer?

Gas has been jumping the whole of the past week in my area. the highest around here in my little town is now $1.44 per liter which i think works out to $6.48 per gallon!!

That is for 87 octane, the 94 i'm not sure how much it is!!

Put $70.00 in my Chev truck the other day, it was very low, the $70.00 gave me half a tank!

be good little Canadians and dont complain as the gas companies get fines if they conspire to keep prices low.

This is going to really hit ALL people,, and there really is no way of boycotting these prices, no matter what some say, as we ALL need gas to get from point A to point B everyday.

Up in my area and other places in the north this is not good at all as we not only pay higher prices to begin with, but the tourism this summer is going to crash, especially from american tourists.

And again,, Every product will go up in price as every product is moved by fuel whether its gasoline or diesel.

In my opinion we're all being fed a bunch of lies concerning these increases!!

My everyday car is a late model Cadillac DTS Performance and it drinks 91 octane. I put $75 in it on the way home yesterday at $1.54, got home and put $60 in the Olds, got home and put $198 in the Suburban, got home and put $83 in the Fleetwood. I just left the Rat alone tucked inside the garage, figured we needed to eat for Easter.

we at 132.9 in cobourg, we tend to buck the average as we have enough gas stations and not so many drivers people simply stop buying gas and the retailers are forced to drop their prices.  something needs to be done though, this thievery has to stop.  i think theres a movement to boycott esso and shell or shell and petro can.  im up for it i always buy my gas from independents and small account places.

If these MP's MPP & Petrolium guys could get their stories straight it might be believable, BUT one says it's "lack" of refineries, one says they are "exporting" the gas to China & India, & the next "clown" says it's the "switch" over to Summer grade" When this happens , it's not too hard to believe that it's all a "BUNCH of B/S" Who's "conning who" here with all the diff. answers???????

Its all lies. I have a friend who's now retired dad was a executive on the board of an oil company. He says they charge what the market will bear, and are not above putting out stories to "condition" the market to accept higher prices.

Crooks. All of them. There is only really two companies producing gas in canada and they are in collusion. Its a monopoly, plain and simple.

And the governments like the increases because they get more tax off it!!

Think the feds get 30% and the province gets like 12%.

Dont fill up at Petro Canada, ESSO or Sunoco.
Tell everyone you know not to also.

See this email below I recieved it may just work.

GAS WAR STARTS MAY 1st 2012

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.00 PER LITRE.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Haliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 1.50 a litre by this summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas ...

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $.99 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.34 at SUNOCO and ESSO for regular unleaded in Hamilton and Ottawa and climbing every week.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $6.12, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), SUNOCO(PETRO CANADA) and ESSO.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of SUNOCO(PETRO CANADA ) and ESSO gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers .
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!
Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from SUNOCO(PETRO CANADA)/ESSO UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $.99 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS MAY REALLY WORK.

Here is my gas issue . I use our 01 grand cherokee for towing on the console it can get 22 to 24 cruising at 100 to 110 k,s , towing my drag car 10 to 11 , thats in American gallons . I dont really believe it . My 50 chebby truck loves gasoline ... a lot ..
I was thinking with these newer trucks getting better mileage then ever , on picking up a newer 4x4 truck . The commercials on tv spout fuel mileage figures . Check some car mag sites an the figures were all lower .
So , here I am , Ding,s trans am 5.7 liter , Jeep 4.7 liter , 50 w/350 sbc and the newer Dodge 4x4 with another 4.7 . Instead of getting a full size dodge truck . I bought a used Honduh c r v 2 liter an half the weight . We love the jeep but instead a running it to Toromto for shopping or outta town visits , the crv will be doing that , and we can save the jeep for towing .
The crv is really the first import we,ve owned , and also is 4x4 for all weather driving an is replacing our 97 ford exploder with a 4.0 liter an 300 k on it ..77.

Doesn't matter what brand you buy you don't know where it came from!! I used to haul fuel yrs. ago & filled the tanker at Esso, Shell & Sunoco in the Keele & Finch area of Toronto & took it to Olco, Pioneer & Crappy tire stations as well as the big 3 & other Independants, so they are still making their sales no matter where you buy it!!!

Its good you realize the Petrocan is owned by Suncor now, since most people don't know that. Suncor is also Husky. It used to be Sunoco also, but there is only one Sunoco station left. They are also Shell, Phillips 66, and ConocoPhillips in the states.

Esso is Imperial Oil, which is owned by Exxon. They only use the Esso name in canada. Much easier to boycott them since they are not operating under multiple names. They are heavily invested in the stations and with only one name, boycotting them would hit hard.

Pioneer is a true Independant - I would go there if you have one nearby.

Watch the noname brand stations and watch what truck pulls up to refill them. It will be either Esso or Suncor. It seems that most independant stations around here use Suncor, and around where my parents are, its all Esso.

Boycott PetroCanada. we got screwed when they formed it under the auspices of saving Canadians money on gasoline. So let's return the favour. If we stay off petrocanada proerty and by NOTHING there, they will still have to pay taxes, wages, hydro, insurance, and stock inventory, hoping that we will shop there. stay away until gasoline drops to $1 per litre.
By the way the Americans are complaining about the price of gasoline at $3.69 US gallon. That's 97.5 per litre. We are paying $5.23 per US gallon now ($1.35L) How much farther are you gonna bend over?
PetroCanada, Sunoco & Husky are 1 company right now. but we have to start somewhere. A large part of people NOT boyvcotting PetroCanada is that too many people live on their credit cards and too many people have PetroCanada credit cards. Figure out how you wanna deal with this. I've been boycotting PetroCanada for about 4 years now, but I'm ONE voice, Need a little help here. My 66 Olds wants 94 as well but I drew the line. Ever heard the line "Actions speak louder than words"?

If anyone ever noticed ALL gasoline in Ontario comes out of the same pipeline, no matter what it says on the door of the truck or the sign at the pumps. If we can grab Petrocanada by the throat they will have to do something (lower prices) to keep from closing their stations, and they will NOT give up market share to spite us. They might close 1 or 2 , but will NOT close them all! That's handing a handsome profit to the competition. And we are in a greed based society!

Most of the fuel haulers are indepandants, like Harmack, Frost, etc. so the name on the truck doesn't mean Squat. as I said above I hauled fuel out of all three & you can't tell where it came from, Pioneer is or was definatlly ESSO!!! Olco came out of Sunoco & so forth, so no matter where you get gas or diesel, it's coming from Shell, Esso & Suncor. You may shut down 1 or 2 stations but the Co. is still selling as much fuel at other stations!!!! They "STILL WIN" got you by the BAG

Let's do the math. The same amount of gasoline is gonna be sold in Ontario, no matter who's pump it comes out of. Boycotting Petro-Canada is a marketing arm for Suncor. Not much chance Suncor is gonna turn the total sales over to Esso or Shell, or Wal-mart and just walk away from the capital investments they have made. Yes their drilling and refining operations won't be affected, but that whole Petro-Canada retail operation will be taking a beating.
Look at the Pizza business. Chains & Independents all battling each other with discounts, and loss leaders. The same overall number of pizzas are sold, but there sure are a lot of retailers. If we DO NOT stand up we will continue to get screwed. The actions taken might cost some folks a little more to start with, but how else are we gonna lower the price? wait 'til Politicians get a feeling of guilt? Wait for Oil Companies realize their evil, greedy ways?
Take the Bull by the horns.
Look at those "Occupied" clowns that disrupted North America. They were protesting a company's right to make a profit, and their deserved entitlement to make a 6 figure income 12 months after graduating high school. Imagine the support they could have received if they had a real complaint.
Drive a little farther and purchase non-Petro-Canada gas.
I'll be watching. -the Kid.

Cut up you big oil gas cards and mail them back to the company. If everyone did this it would send a message. Buy from the small independents .

Let's face it the gas company's are milking us like cows. Price goes up at midnight, we run out fill our tanks to get it at a "cheaper" price, two days later they drop the price almost to what it was. In the end they got you and me and everyone else to buy a bunch of gas, a sorta rush on "cheap" gas. They are playing us like a cheap fiddle. Until we all get our acts together they will still keep doing this and our fine government will still keep collecting massive taxes on gas.
It's sad since we here in Canada have a ton of oil in the ground, certainly enough to last us for the next 50 years or so but yet we still pay out our a$$e$ for it.
We need to boycott one gas company for a full year (that's everyone) then switch to another gas company. They'll figure it out at some point. As Canadians we won't.............. cause that would be impolite. Love and high gas prices go on, oh well.

Sorry for the rant!
