this is more to my liking ,,, more local , real people thanx .....
Welcome to our site Kev. Harry's done a great job getting all of us together. As you said, Local, Real people, and great people to boot. Enjoy your time here.
I am the original owner of the Ground Pounder, 1968 Roadrunner. I ordered the car from a dealer in Oakville, Ontario. I raced it on the street and then raced it in SS/C class, then in C/Gas and the in Mini Pro at the drag strip between Georgetown and Acton. The car was entered onto Speed Sport Show at the CNE and that is the picture you have with the number 5 on the windshield. The car Ewing first place at that show.
No I'm not related to Kevin. I didn't know him. I was on the Internet and saw my car that I sold in 1976 and he wanted to know about it so i joined the forum so I could tell him the history from day one until I sold it. Sorry for his loss
If you sold the Ground Pounder in '1976, then the buyer was most likely Ed Hornov (Greenwood On), as Ed owned the car for several decades (along with the Hemi Charger that "HemiKev" owned). No one seems to know if Ed ever raced the car, but the story HemiKev was told (not by Ed Hornov) was the Charger towed the Road Runner to the races.
Apparently the Ground Pounder is still around as it was last seen three or so years ago. The owner (at that time) supposedly was given the task of cleaning up Ed's house and property, in preparation for the sale of the house ... the sale due to Ed (allegedly) being hospitalized or possibly institutionalized with no chance of returning. The story continued that the guy hired to clean up the house was "allowed to take whatever he wanted" (yeah, that doesn't quite sound legit), so he took both the Charger and the Road Runner (and possibly other cars). It was the "cleaner upper" guy HemiKev bought the Charger from, and learned the story of how the Charger was used to tow the Road Runner to the races.
The story continued that the Road Runner was never titled. I'm guessing what that actually means is the car was truly "titled", it just may never have been stickered and plated for street use.
So, (just curious), did you own both the Hemi Runner and Hemi Charger and use one to tow the other to the races?
By the way, feel free to post any pics or stories here, for those of us on this site to read The pic below was (again, apparently) taken at the home of the guy HemiKev bought the Charger from.

I only owned the Ground Pounder. Took it off the road I think in 69. Didn't licenced after that. Used it to race only. ran SS/C but then modified it for C Gas- glass front end, removed interior and replaced with Solar bucket seats Got motor machined and rely laced intake to a tunnel ram with two Holley 1150 carbs etc. Towed it on a trailer behind an old 1962 Ford station wagon . I have a few pictures that I will get together and post later
I noticed in the pic above that the front fenders look more faded than the door/body, and wondered if the fenders were 'glass.
Any pics you can scrounge up and post would be great .... also love to hear what the car ran for times (and any "Dukes of Hazzard" type street race stories as well).
By the way, do you ever remember hearing about or actually seeing the Ground Pounder, either at the track or at the street races, after you sold it?
