When I was a kid I went with my father to a welding shop (Mennonite) in St. Thomas and we picked up a set of steel tractor tires for my grandfathers John Deere 1830. Front and rear, they are as true and true can be, handle great (not so good for a paved road though). The front steel "tires" track better than the rubber tires in the field. They are basically a set of JD rims with steel fabricated as welded on as "tires". My grandfather bought them because there are a lot of Hawthorns around the family property and he (now my father) mows the pasture every couple of years to knock the thorns back.
Anyway, sorry to side track your intro, but I think the experience of going to St. Thomas to get these steel wheels and seeing what could be made by some guy in a small shop inspired me at a young age to want to fabricate things.
