Went for a short ride along the river tonight, took the young-uns roadster. She is working in Toronto, so I snapped a pic and texted it to her. Not sure why, but her response had foul language................something about my not being a nice Dad and bringing her along for the ride. :)
My wife and I went for a walk on the weekend down to the water to get some air and try to get my baby daughter to sleep. After a few we decided it was pretty hot and that we should head back. When we got out to the road I heard a loud rumble, the kinda rumble that only comes from a tuned engine...and as I spun my head to the direction of the sound I was stopped dead in my tracks....cuz there not 20 feet away from me, was an older gentleman (with his gal) trying to start up a kickass shiney black w/ red accents on interior and engine T-bucket ,with all the trimmin's! RIGHT DOWN THE STREET FROM ME!!!! I've never seen it (or heard it) pass my house before and i'm on the road out.... I was floored! Looks like I need to hang around the water more often! Maybe make a friend. I didn't see any one that was close to me on the map thing in the Introductions section, so maybe i'll mention to him about this forum, and we can get another rodder.
Friend and i went on a back bushroad tour today, (too hot to do anything,)
Went and checked out an elderly friends barn full of stuff, , Man has he got a pile of Model A and Model "T" parts, sheet metal, driveline stuff etc. He has a large engine driven compressor, another 3Ph driven compressor, and an older i think? Lincoln engine driven welder on wheels. Quite a large collection in the building and two busses full also.
DavyJ i agree, but the owner of this barn full of stuff is 86 years old, and i know he would not want pics of his collection posted here.
I'd love to take pics of a number of these places and post them, but the older generation is not into having their pics put on a public forum. (The guy i mention above, has a quonset at his house that is literaly FULL also, also part of his yard. The quonset houses his restored 32 roadster, and his 1913 "T", plus his workshop and , you can barely walk in there.)
Older people get offended by people taking photos for a public forum, not exactly sure of the reason, except they are not into street rods etc for sure.
As a sorta older person I can tell you the reason is trust .The utube and facebook generation may be into splashing there stuff for anyone to see and not give a damn about privacy but alot of people don't think that way and protect ther privacy as much as possible .This is an open forum that means anyone can see what is posted here ,good people and bad people.I have had the scrappers come and do there dirty work by steeling all the cords off my washers and dryers and other appliances for I guess the copper .They probably hit 15-18 machines and got maybe 15 bucks after they stripped the stuff .It cost me in parts and labour probably 20bucks per stove and dryer to replace them, you do the math. This would be worse for clean metal that just has to be taken to the local scrapyard. The bad guys don't care if its Model A metal or Maytag metal all they see is dollars.Ya gotta think about the conciquences of posting stuff . Ed
Hey guys don't get me wrong pictures of stuff in public places, wrecking yards and stuff that is for sale I think is ok and fun to see and to post but the private stuff thats different. Ed
Gawd I almost forgot to post the coolest thing that I saw today.Out front of the shop stopped at the light was the coolest real old school chopper that I have seen in awhile. It was black with a bobbed rear fender and high sissybar, the frame was low and raked with a long extended front end .It looked like a pan and was right out of the 70s.No fat rear tire ,no fancy paint but all atitude and very cool.It got me thinking I should look at my BSA chopper and see if Fatstax wants to try his hand at a bike,Grumpy knows about the English stuff and Tj rides now,so maybe it wouldn't hurt to try. We'll see what happens when I wake up from my Easy Rider dream. Ed
Regarding the taking and posting of pictures. I am not sure exactly how this works but I understand that pictures taken from cellphones quite often (always?) have the GPS coordinates somehow linked to the picture (someone younger can explain this in more detail if I am correct). The problem with this is, you can promise never to divulge the location, yet when you post the pic on the net, someone that is computer savy can actual pinpoint exactly where the picture was taken. Kinda freaky.
Damn, a chopped Beezer.....................that would make my day. My first bike was a 500 single, nearly took my ankle off a few times. My kids were just telling the Mrs that I need a new scooter to play with too.
As for the pics, i understand if it is a private collection and all , just wishing to share in the moment.
My son is a licensed mechanic here in the Niagara area and opened his own shop a year ago April. It's a small one man operation and he works on whatever comes through the doors to pay the bills. I came out of retirement to be his gopher and third hand that works for nada. I've watched him struggle and strive to grow his small business. Each day it's a different broken down daily driver(some that should have been put down long ago). But.. every once in a while a really different day pops up. One of those days that's the same type of work but it's work you don't mind doing...know what I mean?
that's a fibreglass replica of a 33 Ford Tudor competition coupe dragster body. I bought it last year from Army Armstrong in PA. He builds nostalgia funny car bodies and other cool stuff. We just took delivery of a new 160 inch front engine dragster chassis in June. We'll mount that body on the chassis and power it with an injected big block chev. It will look like this:
they're a pretty good bunch of guys. That coupe is the sons car. His dad has a fiat comp coupe. I have a pic of it too. Their shop is right inside the race track at Famosa at the end of the staging lanes.
Caught wind of this. In Acadia California a young man on Meth broke into Mosher's and borrowed a 65 Wedge Belvedere. According to the news article in the papers they are awaiting some recovery time until they can interview the thief. Apparently the car hit a tree at 150 MPH! Maybe after he recovers he will have to deal with the car owner................ considering he is alive at all is a testament to the car builder
This is not really car related but cool anyway .We ,a small group of people tired of the local council waisting our tax dollars in Port Hope, have been fighting a particular issue for a while and it always seams to be the same group of us at council meetings asking questions and just being a pain in there asses.Well we Took a chance and spent some money and got some signs made to give out and hopefully show council that it is not just us but a lot of people pissed off.We began giving out signs Saturday hoping lots of people would put them on there lawns. The responce was overwhelming. You should see the town ,there are signs on every street ,There are signs on businesses, there are signs signs everyware a sign,My wife and I must have given out 50 today alone from our shop. Will it do any good well we will have to see, but it is nice to know hard work pays of and it is nice to know you are not alone in your stand.Sorry this is not car related but it sure is the coolest thing that I saw today, and it might give the petition guys a boost to keep working. Ed
Ed. may not be car related, but it shows that there can be a peaceful way to demonstrate your displeasure with your city council. Hopefully they pay attention and you win one. Good luck!
Saw a guy on the 401 riding a motorcycle with no right leg below the waist or extra wheels to lean against that I could see. Guess stopping comes down to balance and confidence. Good on him I say.
DavyJ, just looked at this post and saw your pic's of Danny Ellis's private collection at Mother Road in Tucumcari MN. Bernice and I passed by there in 2001 and spied two HenyJs but never stopped. This time we went by heading west and as we were booked at an RV center(can't call them campgrounds) we did not stop, however we did stop on the way back east and spent some time with Dan. That day in Feb there was someone from Ont that had signed the book as well as another On day or so before. Great place to gawk but nothing is for sale, with new cars coming all the time. We did not go in the back. PS, he said people are jumping over the fence all the time and steeling stuf.

He had a crutch mounted along the right side of the bike but again I could not see any kind of extra wheel on the right side to support the bike when stopping.
Sad, that car people steal from each other. But what a neat coolection of stuff............. That trip provide so many old cars and trucks along the way. Just cool to see them still out there.
Seen this parked outside of a local business in downtown Watford this afternoon. Diamond T pick up, looks like a 3/4 or 1 ton. Owned by a gentleman in his late 70's, he still gets it out to some local shows and fall fair parades. Makes for a rugged old truck....not sure how smooth the ride would be! Don, the fellow that owns it stands about 5ft. 4 in. so he sits pretty low in the seat when driving. Most times you can only see knuckles, a fedora hat and a big smile when he goes by. He loves his old truck.
Man, i haven't seen that truck for a few years now.............nice to see it still running the roads.
Had a few friends drop by yesterday, to help me celebrate the big 6 and 0. Dave B. the gentleman who painted my Deuce whipped up this real cool clock. It actually has the same paint on the wings as my car, WOW! Thanks Dave! Normally he has a stack of these for sale in some store in Port Dover, but this one he put a clock in and did a great job.
Its in Port Hope a place called Primitave Design near the corner of 28hwy and Dale Rd,or about a mile north of the 401 on 28hwy.They are for sale asking price is I think she said $35thousand for the big one and I didn't hear about the smaller one .These things are really impressive and are made out of old car parts.I watched others when they saw them ,you should see the looks in the kids eyes cause first they see the smaller one and say thats cool then they see the big one and it truely is a holy crap moment .There eyes are as big as hubcaps. Ed
Ok, went by a buddies house today, he had just unloaded this from the trailer. 1953 merc, leaded in packard lights, Pontiac front bumper, smoothed door handles and deck lid. Opened up scoop on the hood. Red and black tuck and roll seats. The car still has New York paperwork and can be had for three grand if anybody needs a winter project, doors are solid, rockers and lower rear quarters need work. I think someone cut off the bottom of the quarters to start building some full skirts for it. no drivetrain or other parts, just what you see.
