This car being towed by a bone stock Ford,,I passed him,,pulled over to get another pic and only took me about 4 minutes to catch up to him again and I weighed about 130k,, best thing about the good old days is they are gone. I am guessing his average speed about 25 mph,,nice iron though.

I was in Hickory Corners Michigan yesterday for a diner presentation but also had a chance to tour the Gilmore Car Museum. www.GilmoreCarMuseum.org This an amazing collection worth seeing. There is everything from steam powered brass era cars to some rare muscle cars. The buildings are unique barns dismantled, restored and erected on sight to house unique collections. An office to resemble Preston Tucker's with original "Tucker" parts boxes and #48 Tucker sitting outside it with movie prop parts around the car. A building for Cadillac/LaSalle, Pierce Arrow and Franklin automobiles. There was a 1919 Franklin sedan which had an inline air cooled six cylinder that was mostly unrestored with 6,000 miles on it. In the front building there was a private collection of Hudson/Essex cars on loan, some '50s classics and #10 Futureliner. Then there was a good group of muscle cars, '64 Royal Bobcat GTO, a bunch of hemi cars and SS chevys. Some rare Fords including a '70 428SCJ Mach 1 Twister and a 427 Cobra, one of six with no hood scoop or side pipes. Even a few rods on display. Well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive from Port Huron.

Sorry i have no pic, but the coffee shop i frequent has had a young moose hanging around there for over a week. he/she comes out of the bush behind there and walks around the parking lot, casualy watching the customers comming and going. It has been there almost everyday for 8-10 days. About 3/4 grown must be last years calf.
Been to the Gilmour Museum before, a few years ago. What a great place to visit. At the time I was there, they had the Bortz Collection of one off design cars from the big three that never got crushed. Fantastic. John.

It's a '47 Hudson. Here is a site that I use to ID cars a trucks http://carnut.com/ Under the car pics it list the manufactures, then years and models. Sure is helpful.

Why do you think he was doing only 25 mph , the load ??/. The brakes ??? the tires ???? even though the truck was pretty big . I wonder if it is bad for sway when pulling a trailer maybe ??? No pics but the other day I was right behind a truck cab on a trailer maybe late 40,s to mid 50,s said Nippising trucking on passenger door , then just the other night , it was dark but I,m sure i seen a 49 - 51 style merc go by my place on a trailer could been purple on sides with silver / grey roof , trunk , hood , looked very cool , just caught a glimpse of it going by my polace as i was stepping out my frt door ..77.

There was more muscle on the streets around here today than I think I have seen in one day this summer .I was out for a couple of hours today getting stuff for the house and I think I saw every Vett,Camero,Mopar Muscle,Chopper and any other kind of hobby car and truck imaginable.Last kick at the can I guess.Fired up the 55 just to feel part of it and went for a small cruse then the lifter collapsed again so took it back again. What a great day, hope we get a few more before the snow. Ed
Jazz..That was a couple of great pics ..thanks for taking the time to share them.. I think the car is a Hudson, too.. I was thinkin it looks in the pic like he is pulling a pretty good grade in that truck and he's probaly huggin third on that old flatty and the grade could explain the 25mph ..That Hudson looks pretty complete and straight all the mouldings, bumper nice ,looks like it could make a nice ride .. kool-kewel pictures and you were in the right spot @ the right time..
12,995 and 13,995 or best offer Covered with 6 inch of snow today
Oh crap, that's what I get for looking at them on an an iPhone...couldn't see the extra digit!! In that case, these cars are WAY overpriced! Factory 340 darts, then were talking "maybe", but not valiants...got to be 6-8k high

No, I'm saying that Southern Valiants are only worth 5K plus or minus. This dealer is asking Southern 340 dart prices for these cars. Even if they had 340's in them, the vin tag still holds their value down. I can't stand people who list cars at an such inflated pricing that only makes other people think that their old junk is priceless. (Like an ad I recently saw on kijiji - a gold on gold 76 4 door dart, slant 6 for like $3500 - I felt like emailing him and telling him to crush the POS and do us all a favor)
Don't get me wrong, I think they are or could be nice cars but add paint jobs, nice rims and rubber to either of these cars and you are at double what they are really worth. I'd bet that this guy could sell them both at half the asking price and still make a profit

I had a '71 340 Duster (factory) years ago ... can't say I ever remember hearing of (or seeing) a factory 340 Valiant though.
Just took this off a wikipedia page ....
"Though the 340 cu in (5.6 L) V8 engine with 10.5:1 compression, 275 bhp (205 kW) and 340 lb·ft (461 N·m) of torque had been available for special order in Valiants and Barracudas since 1968, the 340 was offered as a regular production option in the Duster 340, Plymouth's analogue to the Dodge Demon 340 and the Dodge Dart Swinger 340."
Learn something new every day ...

no difference between a 340 dart swinger .....or a 340 Valiant scamp .....same car one is a Dodge the other a Plymouth (canadian car ) ...a 340 engine alone all done will cost over 3 grand ....A body style is been going up steady since the last 3 years .........the $6 to $8000.00 price for A body already went by a while back

ok so if your shopping for a real 72 demon is it worth $$ ? affect the value 1.missing all the stripping package . 2 who wants an engine bay that s been done with a paint brush ? 3. the hood should be black 4. dual scoop were replace with an optional single scoop in 72.....the car has the wrong grille .........the interior door panel aren t original.........and there s to many pics missing to be able to judge the final price like inside the trunkand under the car.............final opinion the car looks like a 72 at the back and has a 71 front clip ? you want to pay $ for a fake or original

the 68 dart looks good for a car if ready to drive with mechanical ,the usa 69 gt ? as nothing in the pics to prove it is a gt .............68 and 69 for me to pay that price have to have a big block and wide ones at the back.........so the last pic is the best deal if your looking for original specially if the color is the original..............and the 68 win for a ready to go car but with a smaller tag price ..............and while you build your case 68 annd 69 are different value cars than the 70 s Carl had posted...hope you know that this is all in a fun wayy

I love a debate. Plymouth never made a hi-po version of the Valiant to the best of my knowledge. (Please correct me if I am wrong!) The Scamp was at best, a lame grocery getter with a slant 6 or 318. A 340 was available, but I'm thinking it was by custom order. (back in the day of checkbox ordering....want a A100 van with a 426 hemi?? you got it!)
Ok, yes it is an A body and a sister car to the Dart and related to a Duster & Demon, but a totally stripped down, no show, no go model. There was no version of the valiant that was equal to a Dart GT, GTS or Swinger. This is what I'm basing my thoughts of value on.
Is there value in these cars? Certainly, but only as a substitute for a Prime A body car. Lets say you take the one for $13K. Give it the paint job it needs and nice rims and its still not worth $13K IMO.

there were at least a few performance versions I had two friends both with 69 2 dr sedans. one was a 340 4spd, the other was a 318 4 spd. Both had factory headers, and 4:11 posi neither were special order as you could get anything the swinger had just by ticking the right boxes
well if you had a factory 340 you should know and remember that the complete name was a 1971 Plymouth Valiant ...........340 Duster was only a badge name ........same as if your a Chevy guy ......you could have an 454 SS badge on a Chevelle ...........mopar had funny names instead of just a boring SS badge

Yeah, no worries here - I just like a good debate.
That last link, the 69 is wishing it was coming home with me...but no cashola. I realize that I found older Darts, but then again I am the most partial to those (68-69) and feel they are more sought after than post 70 darts. Then again I dont like those at all, and actually prefer the valiant in that case with the exception of the angular, sliced off trunklid and angled bumpers. Likewise Dusters, I prefer them (70-72 only - I'm picky...) over Demons. Chrysler had so many design changes over this period that I love some model years and hate them at the next design change. (Like the 73 Road Runner...pukes in mouth...sorry 73-74 RR fans) The RR from 68-70 Was hot, the 71 was the hottest (IMO), 72 lost steam and 73 was a fail and only got worse.
Perhaps my pickyness of model years infleunces my perception of value somewhat - I know I wouldnt pay half of asking on those 2 valiants, but close to asking $ on the 69 Dart GT if I didnt have the current moth eaten wallet I've been carrying.

Yes, I do know the Duster was the "sporty" Valiant ... I was refering to the boxy "dart-like" body style Valiants (and no I don't mean the later Dart Sport which which shared the Duster body style) like the ones pictured for sale. Let me try again ... I was not aware the 340 was even available as a special order option for the boxy Valiant body style direct from the factory .
Mine was a '71, steel crank, 2.02 head, 3.23 posi, thermoquad, sharktooth grille etc. What a great car. Hopefull this pic I just took posts.
Here's mine, original #'s car, had it for over 25 years, and it's a Valiant, AKA 340 Duster. The Duster was built on the Valiant platform, but no 4 door available.
It's a fun car, and you'd be hard pressed to get it from me for less then $25K. It's a numbers match, 4 speed, Butterscotch car, extremely rare in this color.
Steve the train rolled thru about 530-545,it was longer than last year and there seamed to be way more lights,my thanks to the crews that worked on this display it was great.----DavyJ lights and fireworks over the falls sounds like a fun night that the grand kids should remember for a long time, but the highlight may turn out to be watching a bunch of crazey people on skates hurtling down some kind of bobsled run. That sounds like good old fashioned fun! Down here we take the grandkids to see the lights by the fall's, once again Disney has stepped up and there are more displays than ever. With the Crashed Ice race going on tonight they had fireworks for 40 minutes over the rapids. 250 racer's from around the world racing down a 55 degree incline is quite a sight to see. they anticipate 50,000 spectators tomorrow for the final's . for that I will stay away.............just another traffic jam.
So we were scrapping out an old compressor at work......................and i needed to build a Smoker. added a propane burner, cut a door, grabbed a Ford Drive shaft to make a smoke stack. the hard work was all done by a good buddies son, who had some free time on his hands.......................voila, one fine smoker
